[Opening Newbie Package…]
[100,000 Valis obtained.]
[Charm Negation skill obtained.]
[1x Cold Weapon Redemption Card obtained.]
Charm Negation – Any form of passive or active charming abilities will be rendered null on the user. The user can also cancel out the charm effect of other people making skin contact with them.
Cold Weapon Redemption Card – By announcing the desired cold weapon, this card will transform into a starter version of said weapon.
After reading the notifications hovering before her eyes, Light looked around and failed to see where all the items were. Presumably, the skill should have been integrated with her body, though she felt absolutely no change. However, the card and money should have appeared in her hand, should they not?
"System, do you have any ideas?"
Giving up, she decided to ask the source instead of specuting further.
[I took the liberty of pcing them inside your domain. With just a single thought, you can transfer an item into your domain and withdraw it.]
"Wait. So me testing if games could be used as an inventory was completely pointless?"
[Yes.]
"As if… I thought the domain was something like in Jujutsu Kaisen, something you summon into the real world. You are telling me it is a physical pce that exists independently and can also be brought into the real world?"
[I am.]
Light just sighed. What else was there to do?
"Oh, whatever. It is good news in a way, saves me from mentally keeping track of where I pce things. What if I accidentally saved over my entire inventory too…"
She tried to cheer herself up but ultimately failed.
Although she felt embarrassed about missing something that, in hindsight, was an incredibly simple fix, it did not change the fact that she had received some very useful information and rewards.
On the information side, she had learned that games within her skill could process items from third-party sources. For rewards, she had received some starting capital to keep a roof over her head and, most importantly, a way to counter Freya’s passive charm. The thought of losing her sensibilities just because some goddess wanted to funt her beauty was disturbing.
Now she no longer had to fear a future where she would become a brainwashed love sve.
While walking through the heavily poputed city, Light again felt the same question resurface in her mind.
"What do I do now?"
She had told the guardswoman she was going to join a Familia, but did she actually want to become an adventurer? She had an entire multiverse of ways to grow stronger, and this world's methods were not only limited in maximum potential but also frustratingly unbanced. Talent pyed a significant role in a person’s ability to grow stronger quickly.
This was not a world where hard work could overcome talent. No, this was a world where hard work was a necessity, and talent determined the ceiling of one's growth.
However, growing stronger quickly was not Light’s main goal in this new life. She had no main goal at all. As it stood, she was merely a leaf in the wind, taking each moment as it came. So, while she found no particur reason to join a Familia, she also felt no reason not to.
[Quest Triggered]
Quest Name: No Pce Like Home
Quest Requirements: Join any Familia (0/1)
Quest Rewards:
Joining the Hestia Familia: Liaris Freese (Modified) skill
Joining the Loki Familia: Avenger skill, Ariel magic skill
Joining the Freya Familia: Hildis Vini magic skill, Strong Body Development skill, Stortus Ottar skill
Joining the Hephaestus Familia: Goddess Hephaestus’ bcksmithing ability and knowledge
Joining the Miach Familia: God Miach’s alchemy knowledge
…
Seemingly noticing Light’s thoughts drifting towards joining a Familia, the system sprang into action. The list seemed to include every single divine being in this world, regardless of their influence. Each reward was personalised, either by the ruling deity or their members.
Hestia’s was obvious. She would obtain the skill that separated the protagonist from just another adventurer. However, the word modified in brackets caused Light to raise an eyebrow, intrigued by the possible changes.
If she had not already obtained the Charm Negation skill, Light would have been heading towards that rundown church immediately. Out of fear of being charmed, she would have had no choice but to join that busty goddess’s Familia.
Loki’s Familia seemed to be offering Ais’s skills, while Freya’s pushed Ottar’s. However, what truly intrigued her were the rewards from Hephaestus and Miach. One could not underestimate the knowledge of gods and goddesses who had likely lived for millions of years.
Out of the two, Light was more drawn to Hephaestus’s bcksmithing abilities. Despite never having an interest in bcksmithing in her past life, her Fictional Exchange skill made obtaining any potion with varying effects as easy as breathing. Unfortunately for Miach, this meant he fell short.
"If I want to be prepared before the main plot events begin, assuming they even happen anymore, Hestia’s Familia is the best option. But would the fast growth effect even work when in a different world? Does it not only apply to Falna?"
It felt like she would be sacrificing long-term potential for short-term gains.
"System, is there any way to obtain these abilities at a ter date?"
[Any potential quest rewards left unobtained will be avaible in the store for ter purchase. Additionally, the same skill may reappear in the future.]
"Oh right, you mentioned something about using positive and negative karma to purchase things."
With all the information that had been thrown at her, Light had completely forgotten to check the store.
This changed everything. Knowing she was not locked into a single choice and could still purchase any listed reward in the future eased her worries greatly. Instead of only thinking about quest rewards, Light decided to shift her perspective.
"If I consider my own personal growth, Freya’s trial by fire Familia would probably be the best choice.
"Loki’s Familia seems like one big family, so it would be nice to spend some time with them.
"Hestia would probably treasure me the most, especially if I became her first ever child, but that would mean getting involved with the reincarnator.
"Hephaestus seems to let her children do whatever they please.
"And Miach is somehow poorer than Hestia."
While she was considering her possibilities, a sudden realisation hit her. Would Freya or Loki even accept her? They were both at the top of their respective fields, the best of the best. It was not as if some random, unblessed human could simply stroll up to their front gates and be accepted. Surely, they had some sort of filtering system to reject talentless people.
Perhaps if she showed off her unique skills, they would allow her to join, but that would open an entirely new problem. Who was to say they would not turn her into a factory to supply them with otherworldly resources? After all, she could essentially print money and flip the power bance of this world with ease.
Loading up her map to view all the sign-in locations, Light found the direction towards her destination and headed off. However, as she was walking, she suddenly paused, her feet coming to a complete halt.
"No way."
Unable to repress her shock, she muttered the two words absentmindedly. With hesitant footsteps, she walked closer to the clothing store she happened to be passing, only stopping when she was right in front of it.
Raising her hand, she traced the outline of her reflection with a sense of awe.
In her st life, she had unfortunately possessed a less than desirable appearance. However, that had been entirely due to nature. For the better part of her life, she had been seriously ill. Sleep had been hard to come by, and keeping food down had been nearly impossible. Years of sleep deprivation and malnourishment had morphed her into a sickly and frail woman.
In an attempt to cure the unknown affliction cast upon her, Light had also undergone chemotherapy, causing her hair to fall out on top of everything else.
However, that was all in the past.
As Light gazed at the woman before her, with long, flowing pink hair tied in a ponytail, mesmerising orb-like eyes of the same enchanting hue, and a beauty beyond anything Earth had ever known, she was utterly awestruck.
Ignoring the people walking past and those in the store who had noticed her strange expression, she lifted her unremarkable and cheap top to reveal a toned abdomen. Not overly muscur but athletic and alluring.
"I had thought that whoever reincarnated me felt sorry for me and gave me my bck hair back."
It only now dawned on her that she had not once considered her own appearance. Of course, she had noticed the swaying of her hair, but that was all. In hindsight, she should have realised earlier when she had patted herself down looking for pockets, but her mind had been elsewhere.
"Wait."
Light raised her hand to trace the reflection of her face in the store window.
"She kind of looks like my default game character design."
Opening her mouth, she looked inside to check for any other abnormalities.
"No fangs, so it is not my default completely."
"System, did this person exist before I took over her?"
[No. This body was designed under the watchful eye of a Goddess who refuses to be named.]
"Refuses to be named? Strange person."
Light shrugged and returned to admiring her new body.
Perhaps it was because, in her st life, she had avoided pictures and mirrors to spare herself the pain of seeing her own reflection. Perhaps it was because the only times she had taken photos had been when Yuri had practically shoved a camera in her face. Whatever the reason, actually having a body she could be proud of was somehow more exciting than gaining what was essentially superpowers.
[I am shocked that when considering which Familia to join, you never once thought about which one had the cutest girls in it.]
Hearing the system’s seemingly random remark, Light’s mind unconsciously drifted back to her st life.
For reasons unbeknownst to her, Yuri had tricked her from a young age. Not only had she made her believe that girl-on-girl retionships were the norm, but she had also shaped her values in such a way that she considered polygamy to be standard. She had even confidently remarked that the two of them would one day build the rgest Yuri harem the world had ever seen.
As someone who had been living on borrowed time, Light had assumed Yuri's delusions were simply a way to distract her. A way to comfort her.
However, now that she was in this new world, she was hit with an unexpected wave of loneliness. If Yuri had been here, they could have made that absurd wish come true.
Yet, the only people present were herself and the system. That dream would never be realised.
Noticing her prolonged silence, Light shook her head to clear her thoughts.
"I am in a harem anime. All the heroines are as straight as they could be. Even if I aimed for it, the best I could hope for is becoming gal pals with them, never mind seducing them."
