Chapter 1: A SHOCKING Ability

Beep… beep… BEEP!
I look out of the window.
“Whoops, there we go. Another incident this week. Gosh… how much I love Al Qantara.”
I take another look out of my room’s window as I view the beautiful scenery of the busy streets in Al Ismailia, Al Qantara, Egypt.
I can hear people cussing out other people.
“Man… it’s literally 4 AM. I always wonder how the streets are busy 24/7, as if it’s a job by itself.”
As I view the scenery out of the window, I hear the words “Game over” coming from the TV.
“DAMN!”
I accidentally yell out loud.
“Oh shi—”
Right after I yell accidentally, I hear the doorknob turn.
As the door opens, a young dy steps into my room—also known as my mom.
I quickly pretend to be asleep, dropping the controller in my hand and hopping onto my bed.
“I know you’re awake… I’m not stupid,” my mom says.
Right after, I say:
“Aw, man!”
“Oh well, there you are. I tricked you pretty well… Get to sleep now, or you know what happens.”
“D-Damn… she caught me.”
My mom leaves the room.
“Oh boy… now that my mom mentions it, tomorrow’s the first day of school… The cycle starts again.”
I look back at my TV. It’s not the test model or anything—just a bst from the past type of TV.
I notice that even though I made sure to turn the TV off when my mom walked in, the screen is now grey static.
“Hmm… that’s weird. My TV does act up sometimes, but I guess I’ll just pull out the cord?”
I walk up to the TV, reaching my hand to the back.
“And… there we—”
As I insert my hand to remove the cord, I feel a light zap coming from the TV.
“OW… w-what the?”
I quickly eye the zap. I can actually see it clearly. It isn’t light blue—it’s a green and purple zap.
“What the hell…? I’ve never seen a zap that’s purple and green.”
“That’s like… one of those video game glitches.”
I may or may not have been right…
I look at the time once again. Since I don’t really mind a light zap, I shrug it off.
“And it’s 4 AM.”
“Three… no, two hours of sleep on a first school night would be absolutely crazy!”
I say sarcastically as I get in bed.
I immediately fall asleep for some reason…
Beep beep! Beep beep!
“Not this shit again… (after 3 months).”
“DIE FOR GOOD!”
I reach my fist out and absolutely DEMOLISH the arm clock next to me. I don’t really notice it, but my fist is charged with electricity, moving in a glitchy motion—purple and green.
“Ah… much better. Maybe I could just slide 5 more hour—I mean, 5 more minutes…”
I realize something.
Harith: “Wait… I’m not even strong enough to lift a fork…”
Harith looks at his hands. His hands are surging with electricity and visible glitches.
Harith: “YOOO! I’LL ABUSE IT!”
Harith lifts his hands, but they immediately fall.
Harith: “The st night’s coffee boost ended…”
Harith almost falls asleep while sitting on the bed. As his hand falls on his thigh, he accidentally zaps himself awake.
Harith: “SHIT! OH—I need to get ready now…”
Harith realizes something else.
Harith: “Bro… did I just…?”
Harith removes his other fist from the nightstand. What’s left are the remaining pieces of his phone.
Harith: “Great.”
After a full minute of intense staring…
“Well… that’s certainly a good way to start my day.”
I look up at my now non-existent phone.
“Hmmm… guess I have to follow the stars like a cssic Egyptian!”
I get out of my bedroom quickly to check the living room clock.
“And it’s 7:30.”
I look at the clock, not surprised.
“It’s kind of a habit of mine to screw up on the first day of school.”
Harith moves quickly—but a bit too quickly. He doesn’t realize he’s leaving dark blue trails of electricity behind him.
Harith quickly sprints and takes a look.
Harith: “Just in time?”
Harith looks at the clock again.
“It’s 7:45. Css starts at 8:00.”
“You know… there’s a specific show that I really like. I learned just a lil’ technique from it.”
I put my feet together as I stare at the non-existent camera.
“And…”
I start running quickly to school.
“MAKE A RUN FOR IT!”
5 minutes of epic technique running ter:
Panting…
Harith: “I did it!”
As I reach the school, the gates shut in my face.
I turn white with a deadpan look.
“Oh… well, no problem!”
Harith: “I know a way! I wouldn’t be a real Egyptian if I didn’t know about it.”
Harith climbs up the school gates and drops himself to the other side.
The two guards—who’ve probably been working here for thousands of years—spot me.
Guards: “Oi, kid!”
They start yelling at me in Arabic, cussing me out.
I make a run for it once again.
Harith: “Wonder why these human beings are obsessed with cussing out my mere existence…”
Harith dashes out of their way and eventually disappears—without noticing. He’s just moving too quickly…
The guards stop in their tracks.
“Nope… we are never paid enough for shit like that.”
The guards simply go back to sleep.
Harith: “Now that’s what I call—”
Before I finish, I bump into a tall girl and fall backward.
I look up at the girl and notice she has long blue hair.
Harith: “Let me guess, you’re Syrian?”
Girl: “And what about it?”
Harith: “Oh yeah, nothing. Just expins why you dyed your hair blue.”
The girl doesn’t like my comment about her hair.
Girl: “And what are you? An Egyptian?”
Harith, in a “no shit” tone:
Harith: “We’re in Egypt.”
Girl: “YEAH, THAT DOESN’T MATTER. You just sound like your average Fah (a type of Egyptian from a farming bloodline) who grabs a small bowl and puts salt and pepper on it to add fvor to their food.”
Harith suddenly punches the girl square in the face, knocking her out.
Harith (angry): “Calling me a Fah wasn’t a good idea… Insulting me by it was even worse.”
Harith ignores the fallen girl and snaps out of it.
Harith: “Wait… my css was supposed to be D1?”
Harith quickly runs off to his css like a cartoon character.
The girl is left on the floor with a broken nose from the force of Harith’s punch.
The girl opens her eyes slowly.
Girl: “I’ll get him.. I’ll make sure of it..”
