Chapter 2: Unprofessional God(nothing new)When I woke up, I found myself sitting in a white room. I always wondered, how the protagonists knew, that they were in a room if that room was white, but I simply knew that it was a room. It was like something was telling me that I was in a room. That, or I read too many of those novels and simply associated the surroundings with a room based on them.
Looking around, I saw nobody.
'Isn't this, where I will see a god in front of me or something?', I mused.
As you can see, I quickly accepted my situation. After all, what other choice did I have? Freak out about my death? In what way would that help me?
At that moment, a white-bearded old man appeared in front of me.
[Sorry I'm te.], he said.
"That's very unprofessional of you.", I retorted.
[I had a lot to do tely. The reincarnation circle had some issues, that needed fixing, and I had to reincarnate a lot of souls myself because of that.]
"So, I guess I'm one of them?", I mused loud enough for him to hear.
[Yep, you're the st one], he answered.
"So, why am I here? Some kind of compensation?", I once again mused.
[Yes, how did you know?], this time a surprised expression came across his face.
'So either he can't read minds or he's acting.', I thought to myself, seeing his surprised expression, but outwardly I answered: "Just a wild guess. I mean, why else would you bring me to this pce? That just begs the question, why? Why would you do this? Even if there was a problem with my soul and all, you could've just put me back in the circle of reincarnation. What do you gain by this?"
[That's simple to answer.], the old man smiled, [Because of your time outside of the Circle, you have accumuted a lot of impurities. If I were to throw you back into the Circle, like this, then you would cause enormous damage to it.]
"So the compensation you're paying has the effect of purifying my soul?", I asked the question on my mind.
[Indeed. Whether it's an item, skill or any other wish, as long as I'm giving it to you, you will be filled with a bit of my divinity and that will purify you. I can't purify you on the spot, because you need to soak in my divinity for extended periods, just like you can't wash out the stains in a shirt, just by making it have contact with water.]
"Then I still have one st question. Why don't you throw me away?"
[It's just not as efficient. You see, I'm the god of reincarnation and I get divinity by reincarnating souls. On the other hand, I lose divinity if I don't reincarnate a soul. And, while the loss is smaller, there is no way for me to gain that divinity back. The divinity I gave away in the form of compensation is just lent. In other words, after you die again, I can take the divinity back]
"Thanks, that answers all my questions."
[In that case, you should now pick the ability you want in your next life, aside from keeping your memories.]
"Immortality. I want to be completely immortal and incapable of dying, whether it's through old age or physical attacks."
[That would defeat the whole purpose of reincarnating you, so please pick another ability.]
'I guess after this test, I'll trust him for now. Not that I have another choice.', I thought. Indeed, this was a test, to see if this old man told the truth.
"In that case, I want an imaginary space, which I can enter at any time, which has the same environment as outside. I want to be able to manipute anything in that space, including time, potentially even stopping time outside, while I'm in that space. Also, I want to have a perfect memory while in that space"
[That is something I can grant, but now it's my turn to ask. You want to use that space as a training ground, right? Then why not simply ask, for yourself to be a genius, who can understand anything with just one look?]
"There it goes again."
[What do you mean?]
"Your professionalism. I mean seriously, which clerk asks the buyer, why he bought something and whether something else would be better?"
[Hahaha, I guess that's how I am.]
I chose this ability in particur because I love creating and finding out about things, but there was no way, I would tell this guy that I had known for merely a few minutes, why I chose it.
[Well, what kind of world do you want to be reincarnated in? We have three choices.
A typical cultivation world.A typical cultivation world, but instead of cultivation, you have a power system with cores and circles, using magic and swordsmanship instead of immortal spells. The world of Boku No PicoWhich will you choose?]
So what I immediately eliminated was choice three. I believe I don't need to expin why. (Btw, for those that haven't watched it yet, it's a great anime and a must-watch.)
Then the choice was between one and two and I didn't need to think much, to know my choice. The magic system was just way more fun to explore than that of cultivation, and as long as I could have my face-spping moments, I had no qualms about not choosing the cultivation system.
"Choice three it is."
[Choice three it is.]
[Finally, you need to decide your body.]
"Before that I have another question."
[Yes?]
"Why allow me to choose so much?"
[It's simply, that the more you choose yourself, the greater your compatibility with your new body and the greater the effect of the purification.]
"Oh, that makes sense. Anyway, back to my body. I want a human body without any kind of sex organ. Whether it's a D, a P, boobs or balls."
At this, the god jumped back at once, staring at me with a weirded-out look. It may seem weird to you all, but my experience with the opposite sex had carved itself deep into my bones.
I often wondered how I could've prevented the incident, and after a long period of thinking I finally came to a conclusion. If I had no D, then nobody could've accused me of raping somebody.
Furthermore, it would be the perfect excuse for turning somebody down.
"I also want to reincarnate as a baby and don't take somebody's body. In other words, without me reincarnating, they wouldn't have that baby."
I didn't want some TBATE drama, so I removed the possibility.
"I want my parents to be decently strong, but I don't want to be connected to any kind of big shot."
That would ruin the fun.
"And I want my parents to be loving parents, that wouldn't hate me just because of my peculiarities."
Although I could still not fully trust this god, and, by extension, my new parents, I still longed to be able to trust someone again. Constantly living in distrust of everyone surrounding me was very exhausting. Hence this wish.
"I believe that's all my wishes."
[That's fewer than I thought.]
I didn't want to dictate my surroundings and the world. After all, life is boring, if you already know what will happen.
[Well, whatever. Not my problem. I will reincarnate you now. Bye!]
"Bye!"
And with that, a second life in another world began.
