Chapter 15: The Archives 3

  July 5th 1648

  Phenomenon Name: The Blue Sun

An unknown stellar body that appeared over the Belmont Sky.

  Cause: Inconclusive

Effect: Mass Combustion of all victims who saw its true form. Destroyed most of Westminster and East End.

It is unknown what caused the sun to rise or disappear almost immediately after.

One thing was certain; everyone who saw this celestial object were turned to a pile of ash. More information necessary.

Abel froze for a second, his eyes darting around the page to find any footnotes.

‘That's it?’ he whispered to himself, still not believing what he was reading.

How come this made me more confused than ever before?

He stood up and looked around, trying to find Isabella.

‘Where is that midget?’ he thought to himself after searching for a while.

“WHO ARE YOU CALLING A MIDGET?” a yell came from right behind Abel, a force sending him toppling towards a shelf. As soon he was to slam uncontrollably into the shelf, his body suddenly stopped mid flight.

“What the Fuck?” Abel stuttered. He couldn't imagine what kind of force would throw him across the room so easily.

He was suddenly pulled through the air, his body defying gravity as he was flipped through the air like an omelette.

He soon came face to face with the twin pigtails Isabella, whose face looked livid.

Her eyes gleamed crimson, her hands folded as she tapped her foot incessantly.

“Hey, drop me right now?” Abel tried to struggle but failed.

“Hmph, apologize!” she replied with a smug face, turning her nose upwards.

Abel knew this kind of girl; the type that wouldn't give way until one gave in to their whim.

‘Bollocks, just have to chin up and apologize. This kid won't let me down If I don't’

“Grrr!!! Stop calling… me … a … kid” she yelled as she tossed Abel to a wall, which he slammed into.

Something wasn't right… this girl could read his mind.

He noticed that he hadn't said anything, just thought of it, and from wherever she was, she could hear him.

  “Ok I'm sorry…. Ahhh that hurts…”

Immediately, the force of holding him dropped him square into the ground with a thud.

“Hmph! Jerk. Why were you looking for me?”

Abel couldn't even fathom what was even the problem with this… girl

“Lady! Young lady, you insect!” she grumbled as she waved her hand. A chair floated from another part of the room and landed just behind her.

Abel sighed as his thoughts focused, he could guess what class Isabella was.

  A Psychic.

“Could you not read my thoughts? It's quite, unnerving” Abel complained as he dusted his clothes.

“Hmph! It's not as if I want to read your dirty mind” she answered, this time relaxing on her seat.

“...And as for the information you need. You aren't authorized to that information until you get access to the 5th floor” she added immediately after, in a matter of fact tone.

Abel stood there, his eyes narrowing as he sighed heavily. He could guess that might have been the case.

“How do I gain access?” He asked, not expecting an answer.

“Oh, that's easy. If you can become an Archbishop or become a regional captain of the Order, then you will be allowed access”

“Haaaah!” Abel sighed again. He just started working here. Heck, he had just got his first promotion after one day, how hard would reaching Regional level be.

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

“At your pace, it would take a few years!” Her sardonic tone cut his thoughts short.

“Could you stop that?” Abel groaned as he walked away, returning to his desk.

Isabella was left in the corner of the Archives, deep in thought.

‘This kid… isn't he getting too strong too fast?’

  ***

Abel had put all his efforts into studying and reading all night. He wasn't even able to get through half the journal, when he got bored of reading it.

He picked up the book on the spirit realm, intent on finishing it before midnight.

One thing he had noticed was not just his ability to read faster, but also the ability to retain such knowledge and remember them.

He could even recall old memories from his childhood up to his adulthood, as if he had just lived them yesterday.

The only memories that seemed blurry and empty were those as a baby and…

Those of his time in the Mental Hospice.

It was like a blank was being drawn in his brain when he tried to recall most of the time he spent there.

Just as he studied, his eyes grew weary and his mind sluggish. Overuse of the passive time dilation abilities was tasking his brain.

A headache set in, followed by dizziness. Abel decided to lay his head to rest. But just as he was to doze off, a slight movement caught his eye.

It was a shadow just at a corner of his peripheral vision. The shadow seemed to be formless, like a blob or a mass of meat.

  Soon, voices followed.

He couldn't hear them with his ears, instead, all the information of the shadows words were transmitted directly into his brain.

His head began to burn, his eyes widened in pain.

He remembered what Boris had warned him about.

‘Also, if you begin to see or hear ‘Things’ around you, ignore them!’

  Ignore them?

How in Sherry's left Bollocks do I do that?

Abel's mind slowly began to break apart, his head felt as if a bomb was set off inside.

Immediately afterwards, Abel sneezed out blood.

‘This is getting bad. I need to call for help’

He opened his mouth to speak, but his words got stuck inside his throat.

  He couldn't speak…

  His throat was frozen…

‘Bollocks? How the heck… am I dying?’

His eyes dimmed as he began to lose his vision.

He slowly felt like he was falling, the voices chanting louder, speaking in a tongue he seemingly understood, but couldn't comprehend.

His vision darkened, his head now lighter as his thoughts were wiped away.

  Slowly…

  Ever so slowly…

He felt himself drift into slumber…

A slumber he knew he wouldn't be able to wake up from.

He tried to call the name of the gods…

  His captain…

  His lost family…

  Anyone…

  Help… me

  A sound…

A definite voice broke the darkness of his mind, enlightening it.

  The voices disappeared…

  The shadows evaporated.

Abel saw himself in a twisted space of bright light and yet, it felt empty and hollow. There was nothing around him, not an object or landscape in sight.

Suddenly, a pair of eyes appeared out of this white void, gazing intently at Abel.

Abel wanted to lift his gaze to meet it, but a primal fear crushed his thoughts, mangled his mind and even shook his very spirit.

Abel brought his head low, daring not to look at the eyes before him. He slowly began to mutter a prayer to Mihira he had heard from the Captain earlier…

As he opened his mouth to speak, a hand tapped his shoulder.

Abel froze in utmost fright, his body shuddered, his heart crumbled.

He dared not look at whatever figure or entity was behind him.

  Wake Up!!! It ordered….

  Abel Wake Up!!! It called

What followed was a pain he hadn't expected ramming into his head.

  Abel woke up startled!!!

“Wake up laddie… ah, I told ya a good whooping woulda bring em back” Boris’s deep voice resounded in Abel's ears.

Abel turned immediately, sighting Abel behind him and gasping for air.

The experience just now felt like sleep paralysis on a whole nightmaric level.

Boris's eyes narrowed as he put his hand on Abel's forehead, testing his temperature.

“Ya ok kid? You look like you saw a ghost or something”

“Worse… it was much worse” Abel gasped as he drew air into his lungs, sweat drenching his forehead.

Boris and Isabella, who seemed to have appeared right beside him looked intently at him, their eyes showing hints of concern.

“What did you see?” Isabella asked calmly.

  “I saw…” I tried to remember what I saw.

  “I… saw… I… I can't remember!”

They all stood there shocked. Boris and Isabella looked at each other before nodding.

“Get the captain, this is getting serious” Boris ordered. Isabella began to float into the air as she flew across the Archives to the exit.

“Abel, I wanna ask again… whut did ya see?”

“Mr Boris… I can't remember at all? What's going on?”

  ***

  Two hours later…

Abel was in a dark room, laying on a bed with his hands and feet tied.

This position gave him a sense of deja vu, as he remembered the days he had in the hospital.

Yes… at least he could remember being strapped to a table and pumped with all manner of drugs and remedies.

But right now, he felt lost.

  He had a nightmare…

But he just couldn't remember what it was.

Just then, a figure walked out of the darkness.

She wore a dainty dress and had short brown hair and eyes. On her hair was a clip with the shape of a lavender flower to adorn it.

Abel froze as his mind relaxed.

Then he asked in a reminiscent tone…

  “Sheila?!!!”
