Chapter 73: Unit 3’s Strength

  Chapter 73: Unit 3’s Strength

Flashes of light swept across the area. Explosions and impacts created craters in the ground and reduced houses to rubble under the power of the Devil beasts and Leader Mei.

Leader Mei personally dealt with two of these Devil beasts. Enhancing effects she received from Princess Pailin’s treasures were still active. The power emanating from the golden circlet on her head enhanced her abilities in many aspects, especially spiritual energy and physical strength. Combined with the Three-Word Sacred Seal, Leader Mei was able to handle both Devil beasts.

A typical First word Engraver would not be able to do this, but Leader Mei is the leader of Unit 3 of City Guard unit. Suppressing skilled criminals is her everyday life. Her fighting skills and experiences are off the charts compared to other First word Engravers.

Although she could fight both of them, victory was far from easy. After all, both were much stronger than she normally was. Not to mention the enhancement on her circlet was fading with each passing moment. This treasure had been used since she dealt with Sila. It was nearing its limit. It was merely an Enchanted artifact, not an Engraved artifacts possessing an immense power source within.

The more difficult situation lay with the remaining members of Unit 3. Although they were only facing a single Devil beast, the difference between a Half-step Second word Engraver and a bunch of 3-word Learners was too great. If it were just a typical First word Engraver Devil beast, they could use their treasures, strategies, and experience to fight it. But this bird-like Devil beast in front of them was far too difficult.

The main problem was that it could fly. Even though Tawan could fly to some extent, his dexterity was far inferior. Kasa and Rain are the only two who could fight skillfully in mid-air.

The bird-like Devil beast is able to flap its wings to create a massive whirlwind. When Napha and Gion tried to find an opportunity to jump closer, the python at its tail would attack. Tawan's long-range attacks were easily deflected by the Word of Power ‘Whirlwind’

However, Unit 3 wasn't entirely losing. With their skillful coordinated attacks, they remained undefeated, barely able to hold their ground, hoping for an opportunity to turn the tide.

"Damn!" Gion shouted in frustration. Once again, his body spun and flew away as he lunged forward. His Word of Power ‘Slip’ couldn't deflect the wind. ‘Shrink’ also only sent him further flying. His Word of Power can’t do anything against this Devil beast.

Napha, on the other side, was covered in numerous holes. These tiny holes were caused by the pythons' bites every time he attacked. Despite the scars, Napha remained energetic, his wounds healing at a visibly rapid speed.

Kasa unleashed a series of compressed wind attacks, but they weren’t enough to inflict significant damage on the Devil beast's formidable body.

Tawan flicked his hand, sending Gion flying into the air. Gion leaped onto something in mid-air, heading towards the bird-like Devil beast. The colossal python charged forward rapidly, but Napha was shielded by Kasa's wind attack.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Exploiting that blind spot, Tawan used his third Word of Power ‘Energized’. His eyes glowing brightly as he focused on Gion's figure in mid-air.

Gion's body instantly turned red, blood coursing through his veins. He propelled himself onto the invisible platform Tawan had created in mid-air, his speed increasing even further, instantly reaching the front of the bird-like Devil beast.

Two swords in his hands swung down, aiming for the unprotected eyes. However, the Devil beast reacted instantly, its forehead glowing faintly. Gion's swords spun wildly out of trajectory. Instead of being sent flying, Gion, with the exceptional reflexes of a seasoned fighter, released his grip on the swords, escaping the force's effects.

Gion spread his arms, grabbing the Devil beast's neck and embracing it tightly. The bird-like Devil beast prepared to attack again, but it felt as if Gion were repeatedly thrusting it downwards.

Gion's eyes glowed brightly. His third Word of Power ‘Thrust’ unleashed its full force. His body, like a giant seesaw, pushed the bird-like Devil beast to the ground.

Its body plummeted to the ground where Napha and Kasa were waiting. Napha's fists glowed brightly while Kasa’s giant wind hammer contained immense swirling winds. Tawan, standing nearby, his eyes blazing with piercing light, formed a massive, almost invisible palm in mid-air.

The bird-like Devil beast’s forehead glowed brightly. Its entire body spun rapidly in mid-air, easily swinging Gion away from its body.

Although the spinning seemed fast and erratic, the bird-like Devil beast controlled it skillfully. It spun at high speed, deflecting every attack while simultaneously launching a giant python to attack Kasa. Kasa wasn't as durable as Napha, so Tawan’s palm was forced to block her instead of attack.

Having deflected all attacks, it soared back into the sky, entering its usual stalemate.

The bird-like Devil beast was by no means weak. It couldn't easily defeat Unit 3, not because it was weak or its attacks were too light, but because of Unit 3's synergy. They attack in layers while covering each other's weaknesses. Making it impossible for it to find an opportunity to finish anyone off.

“Damn tough. No wonder it's a Half-step Second word Engraver.” Kasa grumbled.

“I’m sure our plan before gonna work, but it still has that full-body spinning trick.” Napha cracked his neck. The blow he received was quite powerful.

They had tried many different strategies, but none had been successful. The vast difference in power levels was too great to overcome.

“I hope Princess Pailin's real bodyguards arrive soon. Leader Mei has already given it her all." Gion, bruised and battered, staggered back to his position.

The bird-like Devil beast unleashed another spinning attack. This time, in a moment of unpreparedness, a black figure silently appeared behind it. A large amount of black powder was forcefully shoved into its mouth.

It reacted swiftly, spinning its body once more. The black shadow was flung away. It had been fighting the four for so long that it had completely forgotten that another enemy had run off.

"Nitaan!" Tawan called out. The black shadow was Nitaan and Kiita. Both coughed dryly as they struggled to their feet. Nitaan shook his head, trying to clear the dizziness.

"What about the other two Devil beast?" Tawan asked anxiously.

"Is Princess Pailin safe?" Napha asked while keeping watch over Devil beast.

"She used a very expensive-looking artifact to deal with it. And yes, she's safe," Nitaan replied after a moment of thought. He didn't want to lie, but if Enlightened Flame Manifest hadn't appeared herself, then he didn't want to reveal her existence. Besides, the fewer people who knew his abilities, the better.

"Just as expected of Princess Pailin! Alright, let's work together to deal with this one. You managed to get close to it just now, so if we plan well, we should have a chance." Napha smiled happily.

"Hopefully, after Princess Pailin finishes evacuating the villagers, she'll still have enough artifacts to deal with the other two Devil beasts." Gion said with a tense expression. Although the situation had improved, they lacked the confidence to deal with the other two Devil beasts.

"It's alright," Nitaan grinned. As soon as Nitaan finished speaking, the bird-like Devil beast which soared into the air, stopped abruptly. It choked violently several times before its body stiffened and fell from the sky, lying motionless in front of them. It glared angrily but was unable to move.

"A gift from our princess. Let's quickly finish it off and go find Leader Mei. Her Three Stage circlet is probably almost depleted," Nitaan smiled, an emerald green knife appearing in his hand.

Unit 3 exchanged puzzled glances. They turned to look at Nitaan, who lightly patted the remaining half-empty bag. With his other hand, he held the emerald green knife and calmly strode towards the giant bird-like Devil beast.

Seeing this, Unit 3 revealed a ferocious smile. The bird-like Devil beast's pupils trembled, reflecting the image of the five humans slowly approaching it with murderous eyes.
