279. The South Pole Branch Facility (4)

The scientist looks up and sits on the floor with a clear fear in his eyes. His whole body is shaking and trembling.

  “Wait!”

Lily suddenly stops the scientist when he was already about to open his mouth. She points her index finger above towards the corner of the ceiling behind Light and Lily.

“Light-kun, CCTVs! Let’s do this first!”

  *!!*

Suddenly, the scientist felt something weird. Visually, nothing seems to have changed, but he quickly realized how quiet everything became. This giant room was already quiet beforehand, but now it feels eerily silent, which bothers him a lot. Though this time, Lily only stops time on this entire building, and not the entire world like previously.

  “(W-What’s going on?)”

The scientist is once again shrieking in fear.

“Hmm, I guess that is a normal reaction to experience time stop!” said Light.

“Yeah, you were the weird one, Light-kun.”

“I’d appreciate it if you don’t address your boyfriend as weird, Lily.”

“Light-kun, at the time, you didn’t even realize time was stopped until after I told you!”

“Well, yeah! How was I supposed to know about it when it was my first time, Lily?”

“You could’ve at least thought that something was strange? We were fighting in the middle of the road! You didn’t feel the sudden stop of wind, hitting against your skin?”

“I did, but that was after! Genuinely, who even was thinking of that type of stuff during a life and death situation?”

“D-Don’t call it a life and death situation. . .”

“Lily, you were genuinely trying to kill me. . .”

“W-WELL, IT DIDN’T WORK!! YOUR FAITH POWER WAS WEIRD TO FIGHT AGAINST! I BARELY DID ANY DAMAGE TO YOU!!”

“If I didn’t have my Faith power, I would’ve died on that first attack you did! That would hardly be a fight, and we wouldn’t be together like this. . .”

“B-But that is an if! I remember you punching me, FROM FREAKING OUTERSPACE BACK TO EARTH, USING THE MASS OF THE ENTIRE CONTINENT OF FREAKING ASIA!! YOU’RE SO SADISTIC LIGHT-KUN!!”

“SAYS SOMEONE WHO SURVIVED SUCH AN ATTACK WITHOUT ANY PERMANENT DAMAGE!! ANY OTHER HUMAN BEING WOULD HAVE DIED THE MOMENT I DRAGGED THEM REALLY FAST OUTSIDE THE PLANET, EVEN BEFORE THE PUNCH!!”

“YOU KEEP SMASHING MY HEAD AGAINST THE GROUND AFTER GRABBING MY FACE!!”

“I-I didn’t remember doing it that much?”

  “. . .”

Both of them were so worked up and flustered, having a nostalgia trip to their first battle that night. They are staring towards one another with a confused and annoyed face.

  *SIGH*

They both suddenly let out a sigh.

  “I apologize, Lily!”

  “I apologize, Light-kun!”

They both apologize at the same time to one another.

“(Why am I getting so worked up talking to him? It’s like I can’t control my emotions whenever I am alone with him. . .)”

“(We kept arguing a lot lately, but this isn’t the kinda argument I thought about when I heard the term lover’s quarrel. . . What's strange is that I kinda love this moment since we’re not actually belittling each other like how most couples argue these days.)”

  “Seventh?” asks Light.

“Seventh!” replies Lily with a head nod.

They both turned towards the scientist again.

“Alright. My boyfriend already asked you the questions. Talk!” said Lily.

“Since time is stopped, nobody will ever know that you spilled it to us, so rest assured. At least this way, your higher up won’t chew you up!” said Light.

  “. . .”

  *inhale exhale*

The scientist takes a deep breath before he finally starts talking.

“This is a government-funded, unofficial facility for researching Faith powers. We have existed for hundreds of years, 300 years if I am not wrong.”

“Hm. I know about that latter part, but not the first part. What does unofficial mean?” said Light.

“It means that it is a project that directly comes from the government, yet it is not a publicly announced one.”

  “I see.” said Light.

  “Continue!” said Lily.

“This specific branch of the facility is researching Faith power and also creating new Believers under a specific environmental condition. We are experimenting on children who were sent here from all over the place in the whole wide world. Most of the children here are either unwanted by their parents or orphans! Some were even sold directly by their parents.”

  “. . .”

His explanation matches what Light had read about the facility, the one in Russia.

“We met five young adults just outside this facility, though I’ve dealt with all of them. Are they also part of this facility? Why aren’t they wearing any metal collars?” asks Lily.

If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

“Oh, you met our strongest five members of this branch! The Ferocious Five! And you said you defeated all of them? As expected of Nightmare and the Queen of Time. You two are leagues above everyone else. The only reason they are not wearing any metal collars is that they have sworn complete loyalty to this facility! They actually like the lifestyle that we presented to them.”

“(F-Ferocious Five? And they’re the strongest?)” thinks Light.

“(What kinda corny squad name is that?)” thinks Lily.

“How many Believers are inside this facility?” asks Light.

“About 250! But only about 120 of them are legitimate Believers! The others merely awakened and cannot be deployed on combat missions!”

“Are these combat missions. . . random with no clear purpose or reason?”

“. . .Y-yeah! We receive these missions from someone in the government.”

“Specifically, which country’s government?” asks Lily.

“That we do not know. We don’t even have any idea of the person who kept calling us during meetings and whatnot.”

  “I see. . .”

Light sneakily looked towards Lily’s eyes, and she understood. They both agreed that this person doesn’t seem to be lying.

“Alright, enough about this facility. Now tell me everything you know about the Creation project!”

  “C-Creation project? What is that?”

  “. . .”

Both Light and Lily are somewhat surprised. They have a suspicion regarding this project that it is specifically developed only on the facility from Lily’s past. The scientist simply doesn’t have any upper hand in the current situation, no matter how hard Light and Lily think about it. If he is trying to protect this information, both of them could easily subject him to torture that lasts for a lifetime if needed.

“Then what about Martin?” asks Light.

“The man who called himself God! Speak about him! What is his affiliation with the facility?” adds Lily.

“M-Martin? Who’s Martin? The man who called himself God? Isn’t that the Strongest Believer in the world? Why are you even mentioning him? This is the first time I’ve heard someone talk about him outside of social media.”

  “. . .”

Light and Lily don’t know whether this is because Martin genuinely has no interest in this branch, or that he was only interested specifically in Lily’s Faith power, or the last option, that he only showed his presence to the key figures inside the facilities.

  “Stay here!”

  “Y-YES!”

Light and Lily turn around and walk away. They stopped about five meters away from the scientist to talk in secret.

  *SIGH*

“We came all the way here and still learn very few new things about this whole facility. I’m pissed!”

“That man. . . sure doesn’t show himself often to the public. It almost feels like everything that happened in my past was merely a dream.”

“Let’s ask him about the next branch that is connected to this one, and hurry to find the Seventh on this continent! We’ll also destroy this branch, completely to the ground!”

  “Alright!”

They walk back to the scientist, sitting on the ground.

“Do you have any files that show the location of other branches of this facility? The ones just like this who took children in and experimented on them?”

“I-I happened to be handling that data before you two arrived.”

The scientist pulls out something from his lab coat’s pocket. He handed Light a flash drive.

“Great! Now, you should start thinking about looking for other jobs!” said Light.

  *!*

  “What? What do you mean?”

“We’re going to destroy this branch and its entire building.” said Light.

“You don’t have to come here any longer!” said Lily.

  “W-WHAT??”

“Alright, Lily! Please get everyone out of here! I’ll prepare something from the sky!”

  “Leave it to me!”

Lily applies the time stop to the scientist whom they just talked to as well. She starts moving at a speed faster than light. She carefully picks up two people at a time and runs outside, putting them about 500m away from the building on the snow outside. She scours the entire building down to its deepest corners to find as many people as possible. For every room that was locked, she simply cut them open and picked up anyone inside, carrying them outside. There weren’t that many people left scattered around the facility, as the majority of the facility’s residents gathered in the giant open lobby. The youngest kid she carried was an 8-year-old girl, wearing a metal collar and a green hospital gown, while the oldest guy she carried was a 67-year-old scientist, located inside a lab, doing some kinda experiment by himself.

After only about 5 seconds, she has successfully moved everyone from the inside to the outside, including the five females that she knocked out earlier, the ones called Ferocious Five. She also extended the area of her time stop till it reached 500m outside the snow, where she gathered everyone.

“Phew! Done! I’m pretty fast, hehe!” said Lily.

She meant to say that to Light, but she forgot that Light is nowhere nearby.

  “Oh. . .”

When Lily first moved at a speed faster than light, Light ran outside the building. He immediately transforms both of his legs and gather whirlwind around both of them. He starts flying high, descending to 1000m above the ground. It took him about five seconds to reach this height. When he slowly turns around and looks down, he sees that Lily is far away from the building, along with all of the people that she carried outside.

“(My baby girl is so fast! I barely get into my position and she’s already done with her task! How lovely. . .)” said Light, admiring her girlfriend in his head.

Light looks up and points his right hand towards the sky. He transforms it and opens his right palm.

  “. . .”

Lily is looking up at Light, throwing a thumbs-up to show that she’s done. She also throws a wide, dumb smile at him while waving her hands left and right at him.

“(I LOVE HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRR!!!)” screams Light inside his head, while his facial expression remains the same.

After about 5 seconds, the sky was lit up by something that entered the atmosphere. From Lily’s perspective, a small ball of fire appeared far in the sky, and it quickly increased in size.

  *FWOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM*

A gigantic meteor has entered the Earth’s atmosphere. Light has pulled in this giant meteor from outer space, and it has a diameter of 700m. It is burning brightly due to its friction against the earth’s layers of atmosphere, leaving a giant trail of fire 120m in length behind, descending at 200km/h.

“LILLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!! YOU KNOW WHAT TO DOOOOOOO??”

Light shouts as loud as he can to let Lily hear him.

  “OKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!”

Lily also shouts as loud as possible so Light can hear her.

  “HRAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!”

Light swings his right hand down towards the facility, and the meteor, far above him in the sky, suddenly descends rapidly, increasing its speed to 700km/h.

  *FWOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM*

It went past Light’s height in the sky and continues to descend rapidly towards the facility building.

  *BOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM*

  *CRASH*

  *BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM*

It crashes spectacularly into the facility building and crushes its entire size within milliseconds. A gigantic explosion occurred immediately, but Lily erected a gigantic clock-shield in the shape of a very tall cylinder, encapsulating both the entirety of the meteor and the facility’s building. The gigantic explosion was contained inside Lily’s barrier, but if it hadn’t, the explosion would have expanded five kilometers in diameter, causing a massive earthquake that might break apart this entire continent, at least its southern side. Explosions keep happening inside Lily’s time barrier, which, looking at it, would make anyone else but Light and Lily look nervous for how violent and how bright the explosions are.

Lily moves her right hand forward, opens her palm, and slowly grips it close. At the same time, the gigantic time barrier shrank quickly, down to the size of a tennis ball, floating a meter off the ground. Lily activates her accelerated ability and sends the state of everything inside that small ball of time barrier towards a future where the explosions have already stopped, and all parts of the building have been utterly disintegrated into nothing.

  *POP*

Then the small time barrier continues to shrink down to a size smaller than what the human eye can see, and then an audible ‘pop’ sound echoes in the vicinity, and then it fades away completely.

The building and the gigantic meteor have been successfully contained and eliminated from the vicinity. There were no earthquakes at all down on the ground, given how massive the meteor was. A giant empty flat ground was all that was left behind where the facility building used to stand.

  *THRS*

Light lands in the snow next to Lily, and as per usual, his landing is underwhelming given how far his descent was with his transformed feet.

  “Light-kun!”

  “Lily!”

Light approaches Lily, and they both raise one of their hands towards one another.

  *PLAK*

  “Yeeeyy!”

They both cheered and high-fived one another in joy.
