Chapter 6- Your Fort is Mine Part 3

Chapter 6- Your Fort is Mine Part 3

  Teroth

Teroth stands in the viewing deck at the back of the sloop the magi took to the island. It’s a small room, but big enough for a bed and a desk, far more spacious than the small boat they kept on the island for emergencies.

Across from him, the apprentice is tied and gagged. She stares daggers at him, but what did she expect when she tried to bite him? The trip to the mainland would be long enough that skipping a few meals wouldn’t hurt her. He turns back to the square viewing point out the back, framing the island fading into the distance. Despite his resentment at the island, he has a longing to return. It had been his home, if only for a while. Still, he is looking forward to spending some of his coin when he gets back to the city.

It still galls him not to hunt the human down, but the human would most likely not survive the week. He left Kuin, who is an experienced archer, though not better than himself. He also left him with a few goblins in case the human tried a suicidal assault. He pulls out a bottle of elven spirits and reaches for the cool crystalline glasses. He thinks about offering the girl a glass, but he would leave the gag on for now.

On the islands, he had to be very sparing with his spirits, only getting the few bottles he could bribe the sailors to bring, but now that he was returning to the mainland, he would buy a few crates before his trip back. Until then, he would savor the fine collection the magi had brought in their sloop.

The wine is wasted on him; each bottle costs a pile of gold, but considering the collection’s former owner is dead, he didn’t think anyone would mind if he sampled a few. He smells the sweet berries used in making the alcoholic beverage before taking a sip of the crimson liquid.
