Pontifar Maxion Telvus III On the Rebirth of the God of Magic

Recorded by Pontifar Maxion Telvus III, Senior Archivist of the Church of Magic, In the year 377, under the star of Zalthus.

This document is entered into the High Archive as a contemporaneous account of the first manifestations observed following the successful completion of the Rebirth Rite. It is compiled in accordance with archival mandate and ritual obligation and is not intended as commentary, speculation, or interpretation beyond the bounds of established doctrine. Where deviation from doctrine is noted, it is recorded as deviation only, without assignment of cause or intent, pending future adjudication by the Circle of Magic and any higher authority it may invoke.

The birth of Malkus, proclaimed God of Magic Reborn, concluded at the third bell following lunar apex, within the High Sanctum of Telithar, capital city of the Vendal region. The immediate aftermath was marked by widespread jubilation, ritual confirmation, and the public affirmation of prophecy fulfillment. Bells were rung in all districts of the capital, and the outer courts were opened to permit witness and acclaim. These matters, ceremonial in nature, have been recorded elsewhere in sufficient detail and will not be repeated here.

What follows concerns the interval after the conclusion of public rites, once the sanctified chamber was sealed, the celebratory congregation dispersed, and the remaining clergy withdrew to their assigned stations under standard post-ritual protocol.

At the request of the Lord Hierophant, I remained within the inner hall to observe residual arcane behavior and to record any variance from expected post-incarnation conditions. Such observation is customary and mandated in cases involving domain-bearing entities, its purpose being the identification of instability, backlash, saturation, or other anomalous interactions between divine presence and established magical infrastructure.

Initial readings were within acceptable thresholds.

Mana density remained elevated but coherent, maintaining structured flow patterns consistent with pre-inscribed matrices. Ley resonance aligned cleanly with the sanctum lattice and displayed no harmonic interference. The infant subject displayed no signs of physical distress, excessive vocalization, or uncontrolled discharge. Breathing remained regular, and ocular focus appeared responsive but unfixed. These results were, at the time, taken collectively as confirmation of ritual success and structural integrity.

The first deviation occurred approximately seven minutes after sealing.

A containment sigil positioned along the eastern ward failed to engage when prompted during routine verification. No rupture was detected. No flare, backlash, or dissipation accompanied the failure. The sigil simply did not respond to activation. Subsequent inspection revealed no damage, misalignment, inscriptional error, or depletion of charge. The structure remained intact, properly inscribed, and fully within expected tolerances.

When the activation was attempted a second time, the sigil engaged partially, registering acknowledgement without completing the binding sequence, before disengaging of its own accord. Instrumentation confirmed that the disengagement was not the result of overload or external interruption.

Before corrective measures could be proposed or secondary containment invoked, a further manifestation was observed. Ambient arcane light within the chamber altered coloration without invocation, gesture, or verbal component. The shift was gradual and localized, drifting toward a spectrum historically associated with unstructured expression rather than formalized spellwork. The change did not destabilize the wards, nor did it draw additional power from external sources, ley lines, or reservoir constructs.

The infant subject remained calm throughout this interval. No corresponding increase in pulse, respiration, or visible agitation was recorded. The manifestation appeared concurrent with passive awareness rather than directed action.

Upon inquiry, an attending priest advanced the interpretation that the wards, having fulfilled their function in facilitating rebirth, were no longer required to assert authority in the presence of the Reborn God. This interpretation was framed as doctrinally permissible under existing exception clauses relating to divine autonomy. The explanation was accepted provisionally by the presiding cleric and entered into the record as a situational exception, contingent on later review.

No correction was issued at that time.

At the conclusion of the observation period, the chamber was declared stable, and standard post-ritual clearance was granted.

It is further recorded that Vendal is, by climate, geography, and historical registry, a cold region, subject to regular snowfall during this season. In the hours following the birth, ambient temperatures within Telithar rose measurably without invocation, ritual adjustment, or corresponding ley fluctuation. The change was gradual, initially confined to the sanctum and inner districts, and later observed to extend across the capital and into surrounding wards.

Within a single watch cycle, the temperature variance exceeded seasonal norms. Snowfall ceased entirely within the city limits. By the following day, reports confirmed the absence of snow throughout the broader Vendal region. This absence persisted beyond expected variance and was corroborated through records submitted by outlying watchtowers, agricultural stewards, and provincial registries.

No further irregularities were reported during the night cycle.

Subsequent to the compilation of the above observations, consultation was conducted with representatives of the agricultural and environmental colleges regarding the sustained alteration in regional temperature. Concerns were raised that local flora and fauna, long adapted to Vendal’s colder climate, might experience difficulty adjusting to the absence of snowfall and the elevated ambient conditions. These concerns were formally presented and entered into preliminary advisement.

The matter was acknowledged and set aside. The Lord Hierophant stated, in full assembly, that any imbalance arising from the transition would, in time, be corrected by the God of Magic Reborn, whose domain necessarily encompassed such considerations. This position was accepted without dissent. Lady Selisa concurred with the assessment and expressed confidence in her son’s eventual capacity to remedy all resulting complications.

During the interval that followed, Lady Selisa was accorded care and accommodation commensurate with her status as the mother of a god. Such provisions were enacted with notable urgency and attention. I observed, without intrusion, a private exchange between the Lord Hierophant and Lady Selisa, conducted at close proximity and in subdued tones. The content of this exchange was not overheard and is not recorded here. Its occurrence, however, is noted as indicative of the esteem and influence now vested in her position.

It is therefore recorded that the God of Magic Reborn entered the world not only bearing unprecedented arcane authority, but surrounded from the first by the highest stations of power, favor, and assurance, as befitting one recognized universally as divine.
