DMS Chapter 15

  DMS Chapter 15

The old priest then led Anton to the left side of the church. He saw that the priest led him to a fairly large room. More than likely, the salt bought him a room at the church. For how long, Flinx didn’t know, but now he had a place to stay in this world.

Inside the room that was assigned to him by the old priest, Flinx was reviewing his system. He wanted to make sure that he had learn everything he needed to learn that would help him navigate this world in a position of power.

Flinx didn’t want to be a slave anymore and knew that the only way for him to make sure that he would continue to have his freedom was to grow in power.

He also kept checking the forums where the other slaves usually post to indicate their presence, but the fact that the forums were a ghost town was depressing him. Flinx knew that sooner or later, he would have to accept the fact that no one survived. That the enemies of the wizards had killed every living being in the mines. He also knew that he would never stop checking the forums.

Flinx knew that it would have been better if the attackers had attacked the wizards during the day, since the slaves from Earth would have been inside the dungeon, and some might have escaped the massacre. He knew that even if some of the Earthlings were inside the dungeon, they probably would not be able to escape because the only reason why Flinx's collar was destroyed was because of his travel to another world using the gate established by the wizard who took him.

The problem was, the wizards were the main target of the attackers, so any slaves with them would have been killed immediately by those attackers. Flinx would have been dealt with except for the fact that a portal was activated next to him.

After that thought, Flinx decided to move forward. He would achieve nothing if he kept thinking about things in his past that he didn’t have the power to change.

He thought of the fact that he hadn’t seen any signs of magic in the village. Of course, he had seen very little of the place so far, but the presence of the powerful monsters in the ocean of forest nearby meant that, without magic, this little village would not have been able to survive, so Flinx was sure that there was magic involved in the village’s defense.

His main problem was the language. Of course, Flinx could easily solve that problem by purchasing the Comprehend Languages and the Tongue spells, but he truly wanted to learn the language as soon as possible, and being dependent on spells would prevent or delay that from happening.

Flinx also reviewed his system shopping site and was amazed at the items that he could purchase. He wondered if the shopping site in his system was the actual Amazon company from Earth, and that the items that he purchased from the site were being transported magically from his home planet to wherever he was, or was just a copy, and that the items were being conjured by the system. He was getting a headache thinking of the different possibilities and realized one thing: his knowledge and power weren’t enough to think about those things for now, so he didn’t need to focus on them. He did the next best thing that he could think of at that moment. Window shop.

Flinx was tempted to purchase some of the things that he had seen on the site, but he held himself back since he didn’t want to waste the mana stones that he had managed to save for being a slave for more than two years. He knew that he shouldn’t worry too much about the mana stones, since the monsters in this world also produced them. He collected a couple of them from the kobolds that he had killed on the way to this village. That meant that he could spend his time killing the monsters in the forest to increase his wizard level and earn a lot of mana stones, but he needed to have a base of operation where he could rest.

That meant that he needed to learn the local language as soon as possible. His musings were interrupted by a knock on his door. When Flinx opened his bedroom door, he saw the old priest outside gesturing to follow him, so Flinx did.

The old priest led him into a kitchen where a middle-aged woman was cooking. He saw a table nearby with food that was set up for two people. The old priest sat on one of the chairs and gestured for Flinx to sit on the other one, then the old man started gesturing for them to eat.

The fare was a simple one. A vegetable soup, bread, and milk. Flinx ate a little and gestured to the old priest that he was full, but in actuality, he planned to stuff himself with delicious food from his system shopping site later when he was alone in his room.

After eating, the priest gestured at Flinx to follow him. The priest then led him to another room that looked like a classroom. He saw that there was a board and a chalk, and there were symbols written on the board.

The old priest gestured for Flinx to sit in one of the classroom chairs. He realized that the old priest intended to teach him their language, which delighted him. The priest then gave him a tiny board that he could use to copy the symbols.

The priest then held a teaching stick and pointed at the first symbol while uttering its sound. The old man kept repeating the sound until Flinx followed the priest, and when the old priest was satisfied with his pronunciation, he moved on to the second symbol.

Flinx knew that the symbols were the local language alphabet and more than likely, the lessons were part of the things that he managed to purchase from the priest using the one kilogram of salt.

The lesson lasted for a mind-numbing three hours. At least, after that lesson, Flinx had memorized the alphabet and its sounds. When the old priest freed him, he rushed to his room, then purchased a notebook and a pen as well as a recorder for a total of 10 dollars from his system shopping site. Flinx then wrote the alphabet in his new notebook so he could remember each one of them, and once he listed all of the letters, he began recording the sounds using the tiny recorder.

After a couple of hours, Flinx went outside his room. He planned to explore the church and the nearby vicinity. The old priest saw him and gestured for him to follow him. He felt a little dread, thinking that it could be for another lesson, but the old man just gave him a tour while pointing at different objects and naming them. The old priest would only stop once Flinx copied the old man.

Flinx was impressed by the old priest’s diligence in teaching him. It could be because of the salt, or the old man was just truly kind. Ultimately, it didn’t matter what motivated the old priest. The important thing was that Flinx knew that he would learn the language as soon as possible because of the priest’s teachings. After an hour, the old priest left him alone, and Flinx continued his exploration. He thought of going out, but his not knowing the local language stopped him, so he went to his room and studied the spells that he recently purchased until dinner time.
