DMS Chapter 7
Hector told the two that it was time for them to start working. They followed him to a warehouse where they could get the weapons they would use for their dungeon delve, and both Flinx and James got a spear. The spear would help them hold off the monsters while their spells were on cooldown.
On the way to the dungeon, Hector told the two that it would be best if they shared what spells they planned to use, so Flinx told James that he planned to slot two Firebolts and one Minor Illusion, while James said that he planned to slot two Thorn Whip spells and one Gust.
Once they got hold of their spears, they headed directly to the entrance of the dungeon, but while they were walking, Hector suddenly dropped down and knelt. Flinx and James stared at the man, and Hector kept staring at them as if trying to telepathically send a message to them.
“What’s this? Ants who don’t know how to behave?”
Flinx heard a female voice, then suddenly he felt the most painful thing he had ever felt in his life. He felt like he was placed under a shower of acid, and the chemical started eating his flesh. He didn’t know how long it lasted, but after a while, he found himself on the ground, rolling in his own piss and shit. When he looked around, James was the same.
Flinx could feel his face covered in tears and snot and knew that he had developed a trauma of not wanting to experience that bone-deep pain again.
“A couple of very young wizards passed by and saw that you both were not kneeling, so they punished you. I thought they would kill the two of you, but I found my courage to tell them that you both just arrived yesterday,” Hector told them in a trembling voice.
Flinx knew that it took great courage on the part of Hector to explain to the passing wizard the situation and was grateful to the man. Hector then told both of them to learn as fast as they could since he would not do something like that again.
Flinx then slotted the Prestidigitation spell on his three cantrip slots and started cleaning himself, James, and the ground where they had soiled themselves, and it took him several minutes to do so. While he was casting the Prestidigitation spell, Flinx could see the hatred in James's eyes. He knew his eyes were not the same. He was angry as well, but the majority of the feeling that he was feeling then was fear.
After a few minutes, Flinx, James, and Hector had calmed down. Flinx could see that James was still very angry. Hector looked expressionless, but he knew the man was feeling the same thing that he was. Fear. Hector did inform them that most of the slaves had already accepted their fate, and those who hadn’t usually would die early.
Flinx decided to speak with James later since he didn’t want him to be killed by the wizards for insubordination.
They arrived at the entrance of what was supposed to be the first floor, and it was actually a portal gate managed by wizards. The portal would transport the slaves to their assigned floor, and once they had completed their quota for the day or wanted to leave, Hector, who was holding the portal key that one of the wizards gave him, would then activate it so they could return to the entrance.

Flinx saw that the wizards who were minding the portal didn’t even look at them, and if they did, their gazes looked like they were looking at a bunch of insects. Flinx had to tap James back so the man would turn his gaze down since his eyes were obviously full of hate and anger, and if the wizards noticed that, it would probably result in James’s demise.
The portal that they went to was set on the first floor of the dungeon, so the three just entered it after the wizard minding it, gave them the go-ahead.
The first floor of the dungeon was still a cavern, just like where they were before. According to Hector, the first floor was extremely huge, and one of the peculiarities of the first floor was unlike the deeper floors, it didn’t change.
According to Hector, dungeon floors were instance realms, and those who entered them would stumble into different biomes randomly. But the dungeon floor they had entered was a rare one, wherein it didn’t change. Because of that, it was easier for the slaves since every veteran knew exactly its layout.
Even though it looked like a maze to Flinx and James, Hector confidently brought them to where their area of hunting was supposed to be. Each of them was given a compass that was supposed to lead them to the dungeon portal entrance, but while Flinx and James carried their compass openly and looked at them once in a while, Hector acted as if he knew the way by heart.
“After a few months, you two will be the same. Since this floor doesn’t change, you will be able to memorize the way,” Hector said.
When they reached the entrance to a huge cavern, Hector declared that they had reached their area of hunting. They started walking about, hunting for monsters, and after around five minutes, they stumbled into a group of five goblins.
Although Flinx was nervous, the battle was over almost instantly because Hector told them exactly what they needed to do.
“Flinx, use two of your magic missiles on two of the goblins, but wait until they’re nearer so you will not miss,” Hector said to Flinx, then proceeded to tell James what spells to use to kill the other two. Then, the last goblin was handled by Hector who also used a magic missile.
Luckily, their first fight, which lasted just a minute, gave them a single mana stone. They continued walking until they encountered another group of five goblins who were not even holding any weapons. The three killed the five goblins effortlessly, and Flinx concluded that even without magic, they could have killed the goblins without any problems.
“Is it always goblins?” James asked.
“No. As I’ve said before, the monster that we will encounter here is composed of rock wolves, slimes, and vampire bats, aside from the goblins. We are on the first floor, so the enemies that we will encounter are mostly harmless. If you check your system, you will notice later that your experience points will be full, but because of our collars, we will remain at level 1.”
“Are you not bored with killing these weak enemies?” Flinx asked.
”Yes, but thankfully, we have the internet so you can watch or read whatever you want to entertain yourself.”
The recent group of goblins didn’t produce any mana stones, so they moved on. The next set of enemies were slimes, and Hector taught them how to kill them, which was as simple as targeting the slime cores. Even though the slimes looked simple and they could even use their spears to kill them, Hector advised them to use magic, since if a slime clung to them, the corrosive liquid that slimes use to attack had the capability of killing them.
Thankfully, the cooldown of their cantrip spells was just 1 minute, so their spells were almost ready most of the time. The slimes produced a single mana stone, which prompted Hector to say that one or both of them were lucky.
“If we’re lucky, we wouldn’t have been here,” James muttered.
