Chapter 3: On the Defense

While Norville continued to protect the blue rose from the rats – Hiro was bribing Anja to like someone like Norville. Though Norville wasn’t her type – Anja felt she could give it a shot.

“I will pay you at least five hundred dollars to do the job, but I will pay you afterwards” said Hiro.

  “Done” replied Anja.

Norville wasn’t Anja’s type, but since she was doing it for some quick cash – she didn’t mind it at all. Norville continued to be on guard over the onslaught of rats, the rats were around the hedges just waiting for Norville to lose it all. The bat continued to swing his ploy around unaware of Anja flying in.

“Well hello there, never seen a handsome bat like yourself here before” said Anja.

Anja flew right down to Norville’s level. Norville was confused.

“Handsome, you think I’m handsome?” asked Norville.

“Of course I do” replied Anja, “you’re one of the nicer ones that I often overlook.”

Norville couldn’t help but to fall for someone like Anja, Anja continued her flirty game with poor Norville. A few rats decided to use some scuba gear to get across the moat. As they began to swim, Hiro was rooting for them.

“Come on, get the blue rose” whispered Hiro.

Hiro even held up a few signs in support like a cheerleader would. It was all the while Norville was developing a crush that Anja didn’t expect he would ever have.

“You think I am handsome?” asked Norville as he fell into a trance.

“I certainly do handsome, here’s my number if you want to text me” replied Anja.

Norville couldn’t believe it – a girl’s number! And it was another bat’s! But as Norville was about to celebrate it – he gazed at the blue rose and noticed the rats were closing in.

  “Hey, get away!” cried Norville.

Norville immediately snapped right back and began to smack the rats with his plow right in the face. The rats ended up retreating in defeat. Anja knew she wouldn’t be getting that quick five hundred dollars.

“I guess you won’t be giving that money would you?” asked Anja.

“Not a chance, unless, he starts texting you that’s different” replied Hiro.

Hiro was right – Norville began to immediately sent a few text messages to Anja like he would always do to whatever girl he would meet. Anja felt the best strategy was to ghost him instead – show Norville who was boss.

“Come on, come on!” cried Norville.

Hiro was hoping Norville would stay so focus on the texting he’d ignore the blue rose.

“Okay, a second chance, move, move, move!” cried Hiro.

The rats began to go on the move towards the moat, this time they were simply going to swim across it to get to the blue rose. They had plenty of time since Norville was too focused on his phone. Anja wasn’t texting back at all and Norville was getting desperate. He knew he couldn’t leave the blue rose at all.

“I have to find her!” thought Norville.

But as he tried to figure out a plan he spotted the rats swimming across the moat! He had to do something about them first.
