Chapter 20: Divine Partner Part 1
Just as Mr. Magician was about to turn around and run to the temple to pray to the goddess, her ethereal voice sounded in his mind stopping his movements.
“Stop overthinking. Take it, fresh air would do you some good.”
Shade had no opinion regarding religion. He didn’t have the time to spend his time praying to a god that may or may not exist when he was studying.
While Mr. Magician was technically a follower of the Silver Moon and one of her mystics, he has done nothing to please the goddess since his first day.
At first, he thought that he had the best of luck when he didn’t die or turn crazy from having contracted with a spirit with four characteristics.
Then when he was about to lose control in the police station he had more or less lost consciousness and only remembered bits and pieces.
With his knowledge of mysticism, he knew that gods existed and that probably one of them was somehow aiding him during his short existence as a mystic. He planned to pray to her but as this was the first time he had ever had such thoughts it scared him.
His fear only increased after all of the mysticism lessons that more or less said to avoid speaking to a deity or higher being as there was no way to know if they would be amicable if they decided to answer.
Instead of thinking about it any further, Mr. Magician decided to take on the commission as to not anger the goddess of Silver. This made the spherical man jump up and down in joy.
After fixing his now dishevelled brown hair, Officer Williamsson shook hands with Mr. Magician and waited patiently for him to make a contract… Now, to give this to Ms. Astral.
“You will be the one to do it.”
After cussing inwardly, Mr. Magician sighed and went into the office where Andrew was working. He handed him the details of the contract and asked if Andrew could take over looking after the front desk while he was gone.
Andrew agreed rather understandingly and prepared to leave the office. Mr. Magician went down the stone staircase to the temple and saw that the silver fishes were looking at him… Goddess, I won’t run or hand over the commission to anyone else. I am only going to get a gun.
After picking up a revolver and some extra bullets, Mr. Magician looked at the silver fishes swimming in the water. He felt that they weren’t looking at him as attentively as before, but something still felt off.
He decided to take a closer look and approached the edge. They glimmered in an ethereal glow and while the water became darker and darker the deeper they went, their glow never really disappeared nor dimmed.

“I don’t really know what they are.”
A voice sounded within Mr. Magician’s head, it was an ethereal and beautiful voice that could make anyone’s heart skip a beat.
“Goddess?”
“Yes.”
After confirming whose voice it was, Mr. Magician felt fear and awe. Though he already knew because of a weird basic instinct, he still wanted to confirm that the voice he had been hearing was the goddess that his coworkers followed.
“May I ask you something?”
“No, you may not.”
The goddess expressed clearly that Mr. Magician wasn’t allowed to ask her any questions. He wasn’t surprised, Mr. Magician was speaking to a god. Why would he have the right to ask her a question. He was nothing more than a lucky mystic.
“I will not answer any questions that the Magician may have. However, if it comes from my dear follower, Shade, I will at least listen.”
Mr. Magician looked up from the water filled of fishes. He didn’t fully understand what the goddess of the silver moon meant with her last sentence… Isn’t Shade and the Magician the same person? Why would she speak as if we were different?
“You may not have noticed, but that doesn't mean that I haven’t. Enough of that, that bearded man is waiting for you, hurry~!”
The goddess let out an energetic and playful voice that echoed within Mr. Magician’s head. It was as if she was a teenage girl, a great contrast to how she spoke earlier.
Mr. Magician went up the stairs and saw the brown haired fat man waiting for him.
“Mr. Detective! Are you done? If you are, then let’s go!”
Officer Williamsson darted out of the building, not letting Mr. Magician get one word in. With depressing steps, Mr. Magician went out after him.
The two of them didn’t take a carriage. Instead, they walked along the streets. Officer Williamsson intended to catch criminals in the act.
After walking for a while, Officer Williamsson turned to Mr. Magician and asked a question with a large smile.
“Do you have a partner that will be joining us?”
“Hmm? No.”
Mr. Magician gave a short and brisk answer. After watching the rather large puppy eyed man become dejected, he decided to develop his answer a bit.
“Most of our detectives are currently away. I have no partner for this commission.”
“What about me?”
“Huh?”
After an ethereal voice asked a question, Mr. Magician made a sound of surprise that startled the bearded police officer for no reason.
While Mr. Magician thought about what to ask the goddess what she meant, officer Williamsson looked around like a meercat with his fist up ready to fight.
“Mr. Detective, did you notice something? Is someone planning to attack us, please speak to me!”
The increasingly more worried meercat spoke with haste while hoping that the young man next to him would say what he had noticed.
“What an interesting fellow!”
The goddess had an energetic tone to her voice, as if she hasn’t found anything as interesting for a millennium.
Mr. Magician felt a growing headache as the large hysterical meercat was circling him and a goddess that couldn’t stop laughing filled his senses.
…
“Officer Williamsson, you poor fool.”
The reminiscing man remembered a man he had once met briefly. Then he looked back to that memory once again and noticed something off… Right, the goddess noticed that something was off with me. She separated how she treated us that day. Maybe she did notice that something was off with me when she helped me with my desires. But why didn’t she do anything? Maybe she couldn’t.
The reminiscing man scoffed as he continued to float in the deep darkness, surrounded by far away light.
