Chapter 22: Divine Partner Part 3
Step after step, Mr. Magician could hear the criminal descend the stairs. He could hear Officer Williamsson shake and thought it ridiculous.
Officer Williamsson had his keyring fastened to his belt, as he shook, the keys made sounds like an instrument… It’s like when a dog owner wants their dog to come for a walk, so they shake something to get their attention.
Shade did everything within his power to not laugh and give away his position.
When the shaking sound stopped, Mr. Magician knew that Officer Williamsson saw the criminal. Just a little bit more and Mr. Magician could get a clean shot at the criminal and hopefully kill him.
Mr. Magician could see the criminal’s foot come into view as more and more of his body emerged from the stairs as time went by… Large build, brown skin, black hair, and scars on his face, it’s Fury.
Without hesitation, Mr. Magician shot a bullet towards Fury that pierced his skull.
As the large man fell to the ground, Mr. Magician let out a sigh of relief. He stepped out into what he presumed to be the living room.
The place was too dirty and clattered with trash which made it hard to distinguish which room was which.
Mr. Magician looked at the dead body and then heard a loud thud coming from behind him. As he turned around, Mr. Magician saw another large man passed out on the floor.
“Officer Williamsson?”
“…”
After calling out to the second large man lying on the floor, Mr. Magician could confirm that he was completely out cold… What should I do now?
Mr. Magician turned around and looked at the dead man. He thought for a moment, trying to think of what his next move should be. Officer Williamsson looked like he wouldn’t wake up anytime soon.
Instead of thinking about it on his own, Mr. Magician decided to ask the more experienced person and in one way his boss’s boss’s boss.
“My lady, what should I do now?”
Even after waiting for a moment, Mr. Magician didn’t hear the goddess’s voice… What now? Why isn’t she answering me?
As if tired with the current situation, Mr. Magician sighed inwardly. His thoughts shifted from what his next move should be to why the goddess doesn’t answer him… She was energetic a moment ago, why isn’t she answering me?
Mr. Magician was about to touch his glabella when he felt something grab his ancle.
“Huh?”
Caught by surprise, Mr. Magician was sent flying into the wall, letting out a pained groan. Fury, who still had a hole in his head had woken up and flung him with all his might.
Terrified, Mr. Magician looked up at the large man with a hole in his head. The bullet hole was on the right side of Fury’s face. It was rather large, but to Mr. Magician’s horror it started to close up.

The grey matter was slowly sucked into the cranium and the cranium itself started to mend itself bit by bit.
The flesh and skin on the face stretched and wriggled as it fused and reformed to its original state. The hole became a small scar… So those other small scars are previous bullet holes!
Mr. Magician’s body was trembling because of what he thought was fear. However, he felt that something was off. The survival instinct that should had told him to run wasn’t there.
“No, wait. What is-?”
Shade felt that something was wrong with his body, he felt himself tremble but not because of the man in front of him. He trembled because of what was inside of him.
Last week, when he was in the temple water with Ms. Astral, he felt how multiple entities inhabited his body.
He understood that those entities were the spirit characteristics he had contracted but there was something else. A gaze that felt judging and cold.
A gaze that could see through everything. A gaze that would swallow him whole if he focused on it. Out of instinct, Shade decided to ignore that gaze that peered through the deepest part of his body. By ignoring it, Shade thought that it wouldn’t do anything but now, it was clawing its way out.
Who it was or what it was didn’t matter, it was a foreign being within Shade’s body, one he didn’t know where it came from. Shade tried to move but he couldn't. The only thing he could do was move his eyes.
Shade looked at the giant man in front of him, he too trembled in fear. Shade shifted his gaze to look at Officer Williamsson, he was still lying still unconscious, sleeping as if he had nothing to fear.
Shade focused on his own body and felt how the gaze grew even colder and stronger. It caused all other spirit characteristics to cower in fear, and it managed to supress them completely.
Whatever it was, it was much stronger than a spirit with 4 characteristics. Shade’s instinct told him that the gaze was stronger than the captain.
A question popped up in Shade’s mind, just as he was about to ask it with his trembling mouth, the gaze answered back with an ethereal voice… For now, I will be using your codename. You may call me Mr. Magician.
Shade mind faded and his cowering body straightened its back and his hands patted his outfit from any dirt and dust. Mr. Magician ran his fingers through his hair and then snapped his finger.
A chilling smile emerged on Mr. Magician’s face, Fury could feel that something was off with the man in front of him. His blend of 7 spirits and demon characteristics stopped feeling fear when the man snapped his fingers.
“Greetings, Mr. Fury, was it? Unfortunately, I will have to kill you now.”
A voice filled with kindness entered Fury’s ears, and he felt how the aura the young man in front of him gave off changed. Fury was well experienced in the underworld, and he has met many powerful mystics from the churches and sects.
However, he has only felt the oppressing feeling that the young man in a purple cape gave off from one certain group of people before, Gourmet.
They were constantly in a half crazed state and the way they acted brought shivers to anyone they met. Even saints feel uncomfortable facing someone from Gourmet.
He knew that he was in danger, he knew that he should run, but the characteristics in his body told him that it was more dangerous to turn his back to the purple caped mystic.
A loud bang sounded as Mr. Magician shot Fury in the right leg. Mr. Magician threw a punch at Fury’s head, it connected. It barely faced him but the fear he felt before had barely worn off, making his movements a bit sluggish.
Fury tried to grab Mr. Magician’s gun, but he failed. Instead, Mr. Magician changed the hand holding the gun and shot Fury in the other leg.
Fury understood that the purple caped young man wanted to immobilize him, he decided to grab Mr. Magician’s arms but once again missed.
Fury screamed out of frustration and tried to punch Mr. Magician. However, Mr. Magician ducked and slid behind Fury while shooting one of his arms. Fury could barely stand and now lost the use of one of his arms.
He knew that if he waited for a moment then his legs would have recovered, and he could attempt to run… If I hold out for five more seconds.
Fury thought for himself, but he suddenly felt that someone had grabbed his neck and attempted to pull him down.
Fury fell down with a thud and groaned in pain. He had closed his eyes during his fall and the moment he opened them he was greeted by a smile behind a revolver.
Mr. Magician aimed his gun at fury’s face and then pulled the trigger multiple times, emptying the gun of bullets.
