Chapter 29: Clues to Gourmet
It did not take long for Mr. Magician to wake up after being punched and sent flying into a building. Because he was a mystics, the damage he had received was minimal, but most of his bones were either cracked or broken.
He groaned in pain as he suddenly felt a hand on his shoulder. It was none other than his captain, Rouge. He was currently healing him one of his characteristics.
“We heard everything from Mr. Specter. You did well. Rest for a bit.”
Mr. Magician nodded and looked around him. Some of his teammates were standing there protecting him while some were talking to police officers. Mr. Specter sat beside him.
“To think you can fight like that! Where did you learn to do that?”
Mr. Specter was impressed with Mr. Magician’s combat prowess. He already knew that Mr. Magician was a good fighter from his time sparring with him, but he also knew that Mr. Magician was only good at fighting normal humans, not mystics.
The lesser of the two abilities did not translate that well. Mr. Magician thought for a moment before answering.
“Don’t know? It just came to me. It likely had mostly hex characteristics, so she wasn’t that good at close quarters combat. I was simply lucky.”
“I see. I wanted to learn how you did it.”
Mr. Magician laughed dryly as he noticed another smile show up from within him… Shit! Is this another one? How many blessings did I get?
The ice cold gaze looked from within him as if scoffing at the nefarious smile and Shade at the same time.
Rouge listened to the conversation between his subordinates. He nodded along and thought that the two of them was truly lucky.
“Captain! I got something!”
Ms. Snow called out to Mr. Rouge. After arriving at the scene, she had spent most of her time using divination to find something from the hooded corpses.
“I found a place in the northern district. I believe that it is some kind of distribution centre. I saw people going in and out with multiple carts.”
“Did you see what was inside the carts?” Zephyr asked.
“No.” Snow answered.
Ms. Snow answered Mr. Zephyr’s question with a dejected tone. She thought back on her divinations a bit more and still found nothing. Ms. Snow shifted her gaze from the ground to an injured teammate of hers.
“Mr. Magician, could you try divining?”
“Yes, sure-”
“Absolutely not!”
Mr. Magician was cut off mid-sentence by Ms. Astral. She was clearly angry, of what no one knew until she started speaking.
“He has overused his spirituality! Anymore and it will leave permanent damages!”
Mr. Magician listened in fright as the short haired woman started screaming at him to be more careful when using spirituality. Since he had just become a mystic, his body could barely handle using spirituality.

While divination from time to time isn’t that taxing, using his spirituality to create illusions multiple times in a row will cause problems… I didn’t know you could overuse spirituality.
“Here, open your mouth.” Astral spoke with a commanding tone.
“Huh?”
Ms. Astral saw Mr. Magician open his mouth and decided to force a blood vial into his mouth. She forcefully fed him blood as he struggled for air.
Mr. Magician felt how the nefarious smile within him screamed in ecstasy. When he had drunk all of the blood in the vial, he felt himself get sluggish.
Even though he had just been forcefully fed blood he felt safe while surrounded by his teammates. The feelings of worry and dejection he had when he woke up earlier that night had disappeared.
Mr. Zephyr was talking to the police officers. Mr. Magician barely talked with him as they didn’t have as much time to interact. Except from some greetings, the two of them barely talked.
As Zephyr talked to the police officers he suddenly turned and spoke to Mr. Magician.
“We should hurry. The police officers are saying that they will get someone to clean this area soon and civilians are gathering. Mr. Magician, if you want to use divination then it is now or never.”
“Understood!”
Mr. Magician decided to use his divination characteristics to find any clues Ms. Snow may have missed. Ms. Astral tried to stop him but Mr. Zephyr said that it was Mr. Magician’s choice whether to do it or not.
Mr. Magician asked what divination statement Ms. Snow had used and decided to use it as well.
His dream divination resulted in the same visions Ms. Snow received. Though her divination statement was foolproof, what she and Magician got was rather obscure.
After finishing talking with the police, Mr. Rouge led everyone back to the temple where he started filing reports. After everything was done, Mr. Rouge gathered his team members outside his office where a giant round table and chairs was located.
As this was the first time Mr. Magician had experienced a meeting, he was a bit on edge.
“I have contacted our branch in the northern district. The place which Ms. Snow had discovered through divination doesn’t fall under our jurisdiction, we will leave raiding that building to them.
As they will have the saintess with them, we will have to halt most of our commissions as we will no longer be able to quickly receive her aid.”
Mr. Rouge continued speaking. Mr. Magician felt someone touch his left arm. He turned to look at the person to his left, Specter. He started whispering to inform Mr. Magician on important pieces of information.
“The Silver Moon Northern Aurel Branch has stronger mystics. I heard that they had a mystic with around 40 spirit characteristics, a quasi-saint.
Our captain only has about 10 characteristics. Our branch experienced a total wipe out not long ago. Captain, Ms. Astral, and Mr. Zephyr are the only survivors.
That is why we are much fewer and weaker than the other branch. Leaving the raid to them is the best choice.
Thought the number of characteristics captain, Mr. Zephyr, and Ms. Astral have is rather low, I have seen them fight mystics with anywhere between 20 to 30 characteristics as a team and win.
Even when ganging up on another mystic, that is impressive. When your opponent has 5 characteristics more than you, most of the time, fighting them will end in a one-sided beat up and teaming up with someone will barely even the odds.
That is why I was so impressed when you fought Bloody Mary. But you are right that she has many hex characteristics. Excluding hexes, she should be around the same strength as Mr. Zephyr.
Good thing she ran after hexing you. The fact that she waisted your hair on simply making you cough up blood was practically a blessing, I was preparing to use my characteristics but good thing she ran.”
Mr. Rouge taped on the round table, signalling to Specter to be quiet. The meeting continued and ended without any trouble.
The mystics returned to their usual schedule, but they stopped all investigations. Most spent their time using divination or looking over the clues they got from their investigations.
…
“Mr. Magician! Could you come here for a minute?”
One whole day has passed since the meeting. Ms. Snow called out to Mr. Magician, she looked severely sleep deprived.
“Sure, but shouldn’t you take some time to sleep? You look-”
“I know! I know. Captain has already spoke to me, but I just can’t stop thinking about the divination for the hooded man. We know that he and his partner is connected to Gourmet, by the fact that Bloody Mary personally came to kill them troubles me.”
Ms. Snow held her chin while using her other arm to support. The black circles under her eyes were badly covered with makeup… Her make up skills are usually top notch. Does she have a past with Gourmet or is she just very dedicated to the case?
Mr. Magician was lost in thought and forgot to do something very important, he forgot to listen to the sleep deprived mystic in front of him. He was jolted back to reality when he heard an angry voice scream at him.
“Hey! Are you listening!”
