Chapter 8: The Victim

Lithanya was standing by the window and was watching Yichen heading back to the dormitory. Also, she was looking at the movements from the junior investigators. Everything was so quiet in the premises which made the place look like a horror place.

Two figures appeared behind her that were dressed in plain black fighting tunics with purple and green stripes creating marble effects on their tunics.

  “Your majesty.”, they called her.

Lithanya finished looking at the view and studied the directions of this place. She closed the curtains properly and also turned off the lights.

“So far, nothing suspicious has happened in this academy.”, she turned to her knights.

Bhavish and Greyna were standing in front of her with their left hands on the silver sword handles. “Before we buried the victim that night, the knight who brought the victim into the palace found this in his pocket.”, Bhavish lifted a piece of paper that was covered in some blood.

Without hesitation, Lithanya took the paper from him then unfolded it. As she was unfolding it, it was slowly turned from a small piece of paper to a big piece that was the size of a map. When the paper was fully opened, it revealed a map and at the end of the page on the left page it was written The Investigator’s Academy.

“It seems like the victim has been studying the man like the directions and the secret chambers in this premises.”, Greyna said.

Lithanya saw a couple of tiny red crosses on some parts of the map. “Judging by the dryness of the red ink, the victim had this map for a long time. He even wrote the name of the places by the red crosses.”, Lithanya answered.

“But why would he come to us instead of going to someone who is more powerful and is willing to bring down the Huang family?”, Greyna asked.

“Because most of the merchants in Nymphaedra and Eldoria are working with Emperor Huang. It’s very hard to find people who are powerful but also good people at the same time.”, Bhavish answered.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

Lithanya fully agreed. “Not to mention that he must have promised them things so they’ll take Emperor Huang’s side no matter the criminal situations.”, she answered.

Bhavish fully agreed with his majesty. “So, what are you going to be doing now?”

“I’ll go through this map properly. Since students aren’t allowed in Emperor Huang’s main office building, I’ll need to find a way to get access to the building.”, she explained and looked at the cherry blossom walls. “Before we buried the victim, did you do an examination on the body?”, she looked at them.

“Yes.”, Greyna answered. “He was killed by a sword judging by the wide and long sharp blade. Also, he was poisoned. We got a strong smell of poison from the wound which indicated that the sword was covered with the poison.”, she explained.

“Also judging by the timing he was stabbed, he was stabbed twenty minutes before he came to our kingdom. Your father was surprised that the victim died considering that we were able to save him. Until, we got the smell of the poison.”, Bhavish continued the discussion.

“Then this poison must be really strong and dangerous for us to get the smell of the poison.”, Lithanya pointed out.

  Greyna nodded. “That’s possible.”

“Did my father have a meeting with you about the beggar?”

“Yes and we’ll be creating weapons and traps in case a war will start. He said that we would rather be prepared than sorry since Emperor Huang’s army is stronger too. We’re taking that beggar’s fear seriously if it turns out to be true.”, Greyna answered.

Lithanya nodded. “During my time here, I’m going to be secretly attending the meetings that involve Emperor Huang and his allies. I’m also going to be listening to the meeting with the senior investigators.”

Greyna was having a bit of doubts. “How are you going to do that because you don’t have powers?”, she asked.

“I’ll come up with plans.”, Lithanya answered vaguely.

Greyna was still doubtful but she left it. “We should go before anyone catches us. If you need anything, send us letters.”, Bhavish said.

Lithanya nodded, then watched Bhavish and Grenya disappear. Ashok also placed them on a timer in order not to get caught by Emperor Huang.

Now Lithanya was alone in the room. Her eyes looked at the map for a moment and were looking at the places that were marked. She had to keep this someone safe because of Marie-Anne. Suddenly, Lithanya was looking at the stairs that led to another section of the room.

The lights were turned on in the other massive empty room. Lithanya was standing by the entrance, away from the staircase. There was nothing in the room, including the windows. This was a place where she could do her work and her secret work. Lithanya was walking around the massive room to see what she could turn it into. Since she had three days to relax, she could think about what she could do.
