Chapter 6

It took a long time for me to get the whole room built to how I want it, and to get my gem situated in a place I think should be both hard to see and hard to get to. The room is about the same size as when I originally carved it out, but now I had taken some time to carve out some proper reliefs into the walls. Along with them I had raised three tombs I kind of had an idea for them but for now it felt right to have them set up. The walls each had a series of carvings on them, the one with the door I originally came from is covered in images of a procession carrying weapons on the left of the door, marching below a banner that has been…..deliberately smudged out. The other side of the door showed a more holy procession, containing relics and people in varying types of robes. Each procession mirrored each other in design, and each where marching away from the door, with those of the lowest ranks near the door.

Continuing onto the door with the soldiers the relief forms from a simple march to that of a full scale conflict between knights. I made sure to very specifically denote the center of the battle right above the tomb with the knights from the procession seeming to be more of the smooth angles and a shimmer of carved light glowing on them. The foes they fight are shown in a darker way, with sharper angles and, taking some inspiration from what I know, heads on pikes and bodies on stakes, though appropriately weathered all around to cut out specific details. The tomb itself was relatively barren save for the lid which contained a hand sculpted knight in extremely detailed armor, with a sword he holds down his center while laid to rest. I took the liberty of…..placing, one of the corpses from the rest of the crypt into this tomb to give it more authenticity though I lack the ability to arm or armor it.

On the opposite side of the pillar and thus the opposite wall I continued the work with the priestly looking figures. I decided that instead of designing a whole lot more people I would flex some of my more abstract work. Though first and foremost above the tomb I made sure to design a fairly androgynous but very soft and saintly looking figure. Their arms are held open and hand cupping an artistic rendition of a light. The robs where slightly flowing out and if you looked closely you might catch the hint of armor under the robes, but I made sure to keep it just hidden enough to drive someone mad. The more important part, though the figure covered at least half of the wall I was working with, was the angel I put behind them. I decided for a Biblically accurate rendition though not of any actual biblical angels. So I gave them six pairs of wings, two of which draped the shoulders of the figure below it. Two sets of arms, and in each hand I placed a small item. A scale in the top right, a scepter in the top left, an orb in the bottom left, and a sword in the bottom right. The torso of the angel had a hollow gash where the heart would be where light slightly seemed to fade from, but I would need paint for that more subtle work I think. And finally I gave them a completely featureless face, like an incomplete porcelain doll.

Hmm, I may have gone a bit extreme for that one…...though it does give me an idea for later so I will probably keep it as is. Aside from that the tomb itself I left intentionally plain, no really intricate carvings or facsimile of the person in it on the lid. Just a bare bones tomb that may hold something important aside from the corpse I slid into it from the rest of the crypt. That one really felt like sacrilege but I need to make things look right, maybe in time I can find something that would work better. A faint whisper tickled my senses almost like something was beginning to take interest in the area as I did my once over, it was odd but I chose to ignore it for the time being. There was still two spots I needed to look over before I felt this room was worthwhile. And I think the final tomb is probably best saved for last since it is definitely going to be the one to draw eyes more then the others if I did it right.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

Looking at the pillar it is kind of simple, but I tried to make it both obvious and look like someone is trying to make it unimportant. It’s a subtle line of defense really but if I did it right it should help out more then a little in what I am doing. The pillar itself had some very simple carvings, and some words marked around it at about eye level for a human. The carving was of chains wrapping up and around towards the ceiling, the point it meets having been widened out a bit for something special I put up there. The words said simply “here lies the remnants of the past, may they be left to rest.” I made sure the words were facing the door, I knew they couldn’t read them but it might get them curious and since magic is real I doubt translation will take long. The real work I had done at the top of the pillar, I carved out the top into a thin shell that wouldn’t really support any weight but then I did something special. While carving out the area I found an amethyst shard, and I decided to use it for something. What I planned to do would usually take years and specific conditions but with the magic I controlled and my Earth affinity it was simple. I had my elemental place the shard in the carved out portion of the pillar and I pushed energy into it. It began to grow and pulse with power in rhythm with my own crystal until it occupied the space I had carved for it. A small modification after it was done and I had carved four “eyes” into the shell to have the gem poke through pointed at the door and three tombs.

My hope was the obvious pillar and the carved openings would make people think that the amethyst I grew up there was actually me. Since I can’t really wall myself in completely since the system got angry at me for trying. Now then, the piece de resistance of the whole room was set up just so the tomb and the major carving was out of view of the door as you entered. The carving was deigned to show as much detail as possible, as if the whole thing was constantly preserved and kept as pristine as possible. It showed a man, wizened with sharp eyes and a gentle yet stern demeanor. His face had wrinkles from a lifetime of smiling but scars from years of battle as well. He wore a cloak of fur that covered most of his form save for the center of his visage. He has a chest piece on it with the iconography of a dragon carved into it and the hilt of a sword just visible on his hip. He has a cane that he is leaning on with both hands. Fingers covered in rings, one of which I made out of a bit of amethyst I chipped off the gem in the pillar. Finally on top of the man’s head was a circlet, not quite a crown but still a show of nobility that demanded respect. It would have a small gem inserted in it but I am missing something eye catching for it and I don’t quite wanna put myself there, it might make a good hiding spot but I do have one better.

The tomb had a similarly ornate look to it, the sides designed with carvings of battles and days at court, but key among them, at the foot of the tomb towards the pillar was a carving of the king and the two other entombed people. A saint and a knight at his left and right, as if a family, though I did leave a bit of wiggle room in case I ended up making a whole royal family in the future. The coffin lid was flat, with no showing of the king, instead it had a complex swirling design of dragons and vines and angelic wings that flowed around it. At the center of it was a small unassuming gemstone that just barely thrummed with power. It was so obvious that those with more experience would think it was absolutely stupid for me to put myself so in the open. Though I should probably keep a monster in here just in case someone does decide to just take me. For now I have my elemental as a dissuasion but I should probably also make something to guard the room itself, so it’s time I put myself to think on that. I have a few ideas kicking around, including using the design for the angel I had made as the guardian but it felt not quite right for where I was and how strong I was. That needed to be something special. The knight was a similar no go since I wanted him to be unique to, so my options where a bit rough to go with. I would have to take a long think for this one.
