Intermission: Mind then Heart

The Maker was overjoyed with us bringing back the items from that battlefield, it was such wonderful thing feeling such joy from them. But then the maker is right back to their work, trying to make these core things the system told them about. It was amazing watching The Maker work, even more so as they have designated me as an assistant of sorts for their work. I didn’t quite understand why but if the makers wished it I would follow through, such is the duty of a creation. No matter what though watching The Maker work is something to behold. Mana was already a strange looking thing to most who beheld it, but us made of it are more attuned to its flows. But how The Maker uses it is entirely different then how my instincts tell me it should be used and manipulated.

Usually mana flowed from a source to a destination, in nature this would follow paths the aligned element would follow. Water would follow streams and currents, fire would follow the swirls of air, and air would follow the currents winds. Even earth flows in its own rigid way, following the curves of the physicial world. When mages, monsters, and even dungeons use mana they follow a similar flow, from the caster to the point they wish to cast. For a sentient mage that follows their body to the area they are casting, to a monster like me and the others it circulates, and for dungeon. A normal dungeon has it flow from their core to the source of their attention.

The Maker though, they don’t use an internal mana, they push around the mana around them, forcing it around. It looks as if two powerful hands pushing and pulling the ambiant energy of the world around them. This likely has some advantages, not using their internal energy being top of all that. It gives them an infinite ability to change things despite being at such a low strength threshold, leading to them hitting above their weight. But I could also sense something from The Maker, something was limiting them, making them move slow. But I could also tell they where almost, excited? They seemed to be, in the back of their mind, happy to have something limiting the actions they could take.

I didn’t understand but it isn’t my place to understand The Maker or their emotions, I have no ability to in my state. Even as the energy of The Maker flows within me I can hardly understand the connection it gives me. Even as their first creation everything about The Maker still seemed so beyond me, so beyond anything a monster let alone an elemental is allowed to understand. So I decided to just simply watch what The Maker was doing, and at least try to understand the experiments. From what I could tell so far The Maker has simply been forming the ambient mana into an orb and trying to compress it. That hasn’t proven to give us much in terms of anything significant since all it does is put all the mana under tension before releasing it. Though ever time that the experiment happens I can sense a bit of the specifics changing, as The Maker tries over and over again. I would call it insane if it wasn’t their doing, but I couldn’t see what doing this one thing over and over again would accomplish.

I think they felt my curiosity and how unsure of this I was since their attention turned to me, intently observing me. I held as still as possible, afraid that I had offended them and would soon be removed forever from this plan, though I also felt a bit deserving from my doubts. But then their attention seems to drag from my form to my energy and how it flows throughout me. There is a deep curiosity in how they are examining me, and I find it oddly concerning but also fills me with happiness. They are examine my energy and how it flows, coalescing and dispersing in a slow thrum that give me life, and then I hear a slight sound in my head. It sounds like something from The Maker’s memories, something they know intrinsically. And it take a moment for the name of the sound to reach my own mind and I can sense that there is something that they are excited about with it.

  Thy call it

  A Heartbeat.
