Grace spoke casually, but Glory's eyes lit up as he listened.
"Sis, have you really started a successful business?"
Grace raised an eyebrow noncommittally, nodding towards the gifts in his hands. "Let's just say I have a bit of capability now."
Glory felt like crying. His dim future path seemed suddenly illuminated by a ray of light, making his cousin before him appear exceptionally radiant and magnificent.
He swallowed and said, "Then... then I'll take you seriously?"
Grace smiled and nodded, then turned to her cousin. "What about you, Lisa? Do you really like the flight attendant major?"
Lisa sighed upon hearing this, pouting. "Can't say I like it, but can't say I hate it either. It's the best of a bad lot. I can't do early childhood education; I can handle adult 'giant babies,' but I could actually commit murder if little kids start screaming."
"Nursing is out too. I'm even scared of getting shots myself."
"As for being a flight attendant, putting other things aside, my height will be an advantage during future interviews. Finding a job shouldn't be a problem."
Here, she sighed again, looking at Grace. "Sis, you don't need to worry about me right now. I at least need to finish this vocational program. Who knows, maybe one day our college will upgrade to offer bachelor's degrees, and I might even become an undergraduate student."
Lisa was the type to accept the status quo, neither depressed about the present nor overly anxious about the future.
Perhaps that was why she had lived a smooth life in her previous existence.
Three days into the shoot, Chloe gradually adapted to the rhythm of the film set.
She played the female fourth lead, so her scenes weren't originally many. However, due to her natural talent, she had gained the favor of the director and the screenwriters.
The original author even directly added several extra scenes for Chloe on set to make the character more well-rounded and three-dimensional. She was confident that her character 'Daisy' would definitely become a popular role.
"Cut! That's a wrap. Everyone, take a ten-minute break. We'll move to the pond set later to film the scene where 'Daisy' falls into the water."
This was how filming worked; scenes weren't shot in chronological order but according to the practicalities on set.
The first scene Chloe filmed on her first day was the aftermath of falling into the water. The actual falling-in scene was being filmed today.
As soon as the director called "Cut," the waiting assistants outside the set swarmed in. Sun umbrellas bloomed one after another like flowers competing for attention.
Taylor came to Chloe's side, holding an umbrella in one hand and a handheld fan in the other. "Are you hot, Chloe? Cool down quickly!"
Chloe reached out to take the little fan. She had just opened her mouth to speak when a straw was already inserted into it. Taylor said immediately after, "Take a few more sips. It's electrolyte water; it replenishes energy."
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
After taking several big gulps, she indeed felt much better. Since the break was only ten minutes, there was no time to return to the makeup room. They could only wait by the set in a shady spot.
Luckily, Taylor brought a folding chair.
At this moment, Chloe truly understood that having an assistant and not having one were two completely different experiences.
"Taylor, stop fussing. You rest for a bit too," Chloe said, still feeling slightly uncomfortable and somewhat embarrassed looking at Taylor.
Taylor shook her head carefreely. "I've been resting the whole time you were filming. Don't worry about me. I'm not tired at all."
On the other side, Cynthia was so hot her makeup was about to melt, and she still had to wait in line under the sun for the makeup artist to touch it up because she had many scenes in the upcoming shoot as well.
"Cynthia!"
Suddenly, a call rang out. The voice was so familiar that Cynthia thought she was hallucinating from heatstroke.
She looked up instinctively and found it was really her father who had come.
"Dad!"
Cynthia's face lit up with joy, but in the next second, all the grievances she had suppressed during her time on set uncontrollably surged up. Crying, she threw herself into her father's arms.
Cynthia's dad had only this one treasured daughter, the apple of his eye since childhood. In his eyes, his daughter's tears were pearls, were diamonds.
Cynthia's crying nearly broke Cynthia's dad's heart.
He asked with careful concern, "Oh, honey, what's wrong? Is the filming not going well?"
Cynthia looked up, crying, "Spending all day serving tea and water, kneeling and kowtowing—how could it possibly go well?"
Cynthia's dad was momentarily stunned upon hearing this. He remembered that the role his daughter wanted was that of a maid. At the time, he had felt reluctant about it, but his daughter said this role had great performance potential, and she really wanted it. That's why he helped her "buy" the role.
Wasn't serving tea, water, kneeling, and kowtowing normal for a maid?
Though he had doubts, Cynthia's dad obviously wouldn't question his daughter like that. He only said with heartache, "Then... then let's not film it anymore?"
"How can we do that? I signed a contract. Not filming would be a breach of contract," Cynthia shook her head upon hearing this, apparently still clear-headed.
But Cynthia's dad felt for his daughter. Seeing her so wronged after only three days on set, he immediately stated, "Breach of contract, so be it. It's not like your dad can't afford the penalty."
"No. I'm a newcomer. What newcomer breaches their very first contract? If word gets out, who would dare hire me in the future?" Cynthia calmed down, wiping away her tears.
Although she was a pampered girl, being a star was indeed her dream.
She knew being an actor was hard; she was mentally prepared. The main reason for her grievance was largely because of Chloe. The fact that she had to serve tea, water, kneel, and kowtow mostly for Chloe's character was what made her most resentful and aggrieved.
If the 'second daughter' were played by any other popular actress, she would have been perfectly willing and wouldn't have felt wronged at all.
Glancing over at Chloe, who had an assistant holding an umbrella and a folding chair to sit on, Cynthia felt her lungs were about to explode from anger.
"Dad, you didn't even think to arrange an assistant for me. When I'm thirsty, I have to go get water myself," Cynthia's petty anger flared, and she started acting spoiled with her father again.
Cynthia's dad laughed easily, saying generously, "Wanting an assistant is simple. Is ten enough?"
"Dad!" Cynthia felt a headache coming on. She stamped her foot and said, "Who brings ten assistants? Gavin only has four!"
"Then you tell me how many you want. Dad will arrange it for you," Cynthia's dad continued, soothing his daughter without losing his temper.
"One is enough," Cynthia muttered, then felt she was losing and added, "Two!"
"Okay, two. I'll arrange it for you right away."
"Prepare to move sets! All actors, get into position quickly!"
With the set controller's shout, Cynthia hurriedly said, "Dad, I need to start filming. You should go back."
"Dad just got here and wanted to watch you act."
Cynthia didn't have time to say more, only reminding, "Then don't make a sound. They're recording audio on set. Even the slightest sound gets picked up."
On the other side, the assistant director approached Chloe and asked quietly, "Chloe, are you sure you don't need a stand-in?"
Chloe shook her head upon hearing this. "It's okay, director. I'm from Novastra; I've known how to swim since I was a child. Don't worry."
The assistant director nodded with an admiring expression, then turned to the other actors. "Chloe will do this falling-into-water scene herself. Let's try to get it in one take."
Cynthia, standing nearby, revealed an almost imperceptible sneer upon hearing this.
One take?
In your dreams!
