The elevator dinged and opened its door, revealing what seemed to be a repurposed server room. Xu didn’t leave the elevator for over an hour. He just held his purple crystal and sat with his thoughts.
He sighed and zoned out a little longer.
Xu eventually got up and walked out into the new space.
It felt damp and sticky. His hands ran over the rusty walls that had more than likely been chewing through the metal since The Merge. It was practically a tomb of another time, lit only by flickering lights overhead.
He sat down on the cold metal floor, the hum of the ventilation fans drowned everything else out, but it seemed to help him relax.
In his palm lay the Beta Enhancement Cartridge: Divine Fission. It was a small silver chip. The logo stamped on the front was almost offensively cheerful. It showed a rounded shield with a smiling curve that jutted out on the sides.
"Aegis Dynamics," Xu muttered, reading the microscopic laser-etching. "Empowering Your Potential."
After everything that I just went through, He picked up his new Nanosword. The handle was rough, but his palms had already slickened its grip.
He heard Lee’s voice in the depths of his mind.

Instantly, something pricked his hand from its handle. He suddenly felt a presence inside his brain. It was less robotic than he expected. Instead, it was like the voice of an aggressively optimistic mental wellness coach.

Then, the pain hit.
