Maximum Output

We stepped off the ramp, and the city was beautiful. The dome's structure was made of hexagonal supports with reinforced glass. The buildings were huge towering over us sleek and white, but beyond the glass The barren planet seemed to contrast perfectly.

“Thank god you’re finally here, I’m Joshua, Joshua Norman,” he said relived while shaking all of our hands

“Are the monsters still contained,” Yamato asked seriously.

“No! They’re attacking two more domes, and they’ve breached one of the gates between them and us,” he said frantically.

“Ed, Scindere you two are going to take the lead. Me and Ruber will intervene if ya’ll get in to danger,” Yamato said calmly.

Yamato walked over to the keypad at the edge of the gate and each felt like time was decelerating. My heart felt like it might explode from terror. I quickly brushed those thoughts aside and assumed a fighting stance, and I poured my will into fists. The doors opened quickly and the lights inside flickered for a second. I saw a four armed abomination. Its face was sunken and its flesh appeared grey, this monster was about 2 heads taller than me, and its eyes were a hellish orange. Then it lunged at me. I leaped back and saw the monster's four arms slam into where I was standing. I quickly pointed at the monster and in the next moment the monster was riddled with slashes. Amber blood began to flow out of the monster's body its gaze seemed to be unfocused. I lunged and threw a right hook. The monster blocked with two of its arms, and then I felt two of its fists slam into stomach. I quickly grasped it’s face with my left hand and chanted

  “Cleave.”

The monster hit me again, this time I fell back from the force of its attack and threw up. Now the monster's eyes were a bloody mess and it swung wildly. I designated the area around his head, it collapsed into a bloody mess. I met its bloody eyes. The hatred inside them made skin crawl. I then put my will into my foot and extinguished him. His body turned into an amber dust and was blown away by the wind. I looked over and saw ed grab a monster by the face. I saw a glint of light appear from the palm of Ed’s hand then a stream of blinding light burst from his hand, and the monster's head was reduced to a pile of ash. Then I saw 3 pairs of eyes turned to face me and ed. Concentrated my will and imagined a grid then I pointed at them. A grid of slashes flew down the corridor tearing through crates and machinery. The monsters were instantly ripped apart.

“Scindere you need to conserve your will,” Ruber said seriously.

Ed launched a spark of light down the corridor. There were no monsters left, just amber blood scattered across the walls. We walked through the halls, each footstep echoing. Then we reached the end of the hall, Yamato stepped forward and reached the keypad. The door opened and the scene was chaotic. The dome was nearly identical to the first one; however, this one was demolished and the pristine white skyscrapers were scattered everywhere. There was a small rift that looked similar to the one in the night sky. There were hordes of monsters pressing up against the other and a few more scattered around. Me and Ed leaped forward.

  “Maximum output” we chanted simultaneously

“Serve, Dismantle, Cleave, Lacerate, Cut, Slice,” I Chanted

I thought of a ball around a group of monsters. The energy within my body evaporated immediately, and one of the groups of monsters was torn apart. The barrage of slashes ripped them apart, painting the walls amber. 20 monsters were cut into oblivion all that remained was the amber stains that covered the walls and floor. I fell to my knees, spots in my vision, and barely able to breath; I looked over and the horde was gone with scorch marks around the blast. Ed collapsed to the floor then suddenly he turned over and coughed violently. Ruber suddenly appeared in front covered in amber, the wind a glint of amber reflecting in it. I looked around and all the other monsters were dead.

“You did great out there, but collapsing mid fight isn’t a good idea,” Ruber said smiling.

Then Ruber pointed to the sky

  “Porta clauditur,” he chanted.

Then the gate with its magnificent purple interior closed.

“Why can’t we do that to the one in the sky?” I asked

“The larger a gate the harder it is to close and open.” Yamato replied clamly.

“Speaking of Yami, when are we going to teach them how to cross?”

“Well, do it when we get back to the ship.”

“Congrats you two, your first mission was a success, and no civilians were killed.” Ruber said excitedly

I had to haul Ed back to the ship as he was no longer able to stand. His shirt had specks of blood from his coughing fit and I almost felt bad for him. Yamato and Ruber talked to the mayor while I dragged Ed to his bed. I hobbled back to my room, and I laid down and passed out.
