Journal 6: Deep Thoughts

  JMJ

It’s been some days since we started driving out towards the University. I’ve been praying about it, and based on how he’s been acting about it, I decided to confront Coryx about his feelings toward the Professor and issue him a challenge: He’s got 2 weeks to court Professor Kallis before I do. To help him out, I offered some assistance with his reading. Whatever the outcome the Lord has for us, I ask that He help us come out of this stronger men.

I guess it would be prudent to say where and when I’m writing this.

It is a dark and stormy night on the way to Alexandria. No doubt the van would have flooded if we kept going. The structures our ancestors built all have varying resilience, but the lot we’re sheltering under seems to hold up well enough. The basement level in its current state, however looks like it could swallow me up, let alone some of the smaller members of this entourage.

  “Do not trust the water.”

  I’m getting ahead of myself.

They came out from the basement water during Remington’s watch. 2 rats, K’Tren the larger and I’krit the smaller. Scouts of a sort, surveying the sewers for ways to expand their tribe’s influence outside of the network. Though approached with caution, I’krit greeted us with warmth; K’tren, meanwhile, returned our initial distrust with a lasting one. After drying themselves off at our fire, we all returned to our regular watch schedule: Remington, Lucio, Umoo, then me. When Umoo woke me up for my shift, he told me that K’tren was looking over the water, and when I checked up on him, he was still there. His armor betrayed his role as I’krit’s bodyguard, but his behavior is a testament to his devotion. I had to admit, I felt more than a little lacking in my role as a Knight. But as I said to him, “My God gave me a set of rules, and I couldn’t in good faith break them.” But that just leaves me wondering…

Am I going where You want me to go?
