Chapter 12.5: Alice and Philip’s dilemma

Amethyst Von Versailles is the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Versailles. Lady Amethyst is known to be a frail girl in the noble society. She never attends any tea parties unless she recovers a bit of strength.

I have watched Lady Amethyst grow up until she’s 19 today. We basically grew up together. She cheers and watches me train my swordsmanship, witnessed how I went from a noble lady from a fallen noble house to a knight of house Versailles today.

I have always prayed that she will recover her strength so she can help rule this kingdom together with crown prince Gregory, since she fancied the crown prince since we were kids.

But I never imagined the cost.

Meanwhile, she recovers her strength and is even able to slay a giant serpent, I—no, we lost Lady Amethyst. She no longer recognizes the duke and duchess, even me, whom she sees almost every day since we were young.

Everyday since that incident where the crown prince rejected her feelings, she collapsed and never woke up until the third day. I always thought it was strange. Her actions, the way she speaks, and oh Gods! The way she looks at us. Who even is she right now? I’m afraid that if I totally embrace this current Lady Amethyst, I will forever lose my only friend.

  —————

I can only sigh and sigh all day ever since the crown prince tasked me to monitor Lady Amethyst.

I really thought and even prepared myself for the worst, that she’s scheming against the kingdom and plans to take revenge for the crown prince since he rejected her.

  But no.

I am always baffled and somewhat excited about what she will do next.

It's like reading. I'm reading an interesting book, and I keep on flipping its pages so I will know what happens next.

Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

Why the hell is she running now? And even wearing men’s clothing? What is this woman doing?

I have been imbuing mana in my eyes so I can see clearly from a distance.

I’m like a stalker, but on royal orders.

  Sigh.

No one in my entire life has seen a woman wearing men’s clothing. Heck, even the lady knights wear dresses underneath that heavy iron armor suit.

But the more I keep on watching her running at dawn, the more I understand why she wore them in the first place.

“Must be because men’s clothing is more comfortable and suitable for training one’s body, and not restricting any movements.”

She’s actually smart. I never knew that—no, people didn’t really know her since she rarely goes out to socialize with other nobles because of her sickly body.

But I’m not seeing the ‘sickly’ part now.

Why the fuck is she sprinting? Is she really as sickly as the rumors say she is?

  Oh, my gods!

“A-a goblin general???” I wanted to run as fast as I could down to the gate near the aetherglass cave, but I couldn’t move an inch.

“Philip. You only need to observe and report to me. There is no need to intervene.” The crown prince’s words played in my mind.

Yes. I shouldn’t, but those soldiers will die if no one helps them.

Ah yes. Head Soldier Roland Greaves is there. He can do it.

  SLASH

“I knew he could do it. I never doubted you for a second, Head Soldier Greaves.”

Hmm? Why is the ground underneath the corpse of the Goblin General moving? As if there is something about to emerge.

  Gasp.

  “A basilisk!”

Quick! I have to tell Head Soldier Greaves.

“Head Soldier, this is Philip. I’m here on the crown prince’s orders. I see a basilisk about to emerge under the corpse. Prepare yourselves!”

  Huff huff huff.

That’s all I could do for now. Sending a telepathic message will tire me out, especially when the target of the message is far from me. Even though I can focus my mana in one thick line, it drains my mana faster.

Sigh. “Watching things unfold from afar is more nerve-racking than being on the battlefield.”

Watching Head Soldier Greaves distract the basilisk so that the other soldiers can evacuate is an honorable thing.

Hmm? What’s that brown smoke coming from? And why is it so fast?

“Oh, it's Lady Amethyst on a... horse?”

I straighten my back after seeing Lady Amethyst go down the horse.

Why did that staff member tell me that Lady Amethyst has never ridden a horse? Tsk. What a liar. I’ve spent 1 gold for insider information about Lady Amethyst, you know.

Head Soldier Greaves is scolding Lady Amethyst for being at the battlefield.

  SWOOSH!

  Gasp. “What was that?”

“It's like Lady Amethyst looked at my eyes just now. That’s impossible! I’ve hidden myself with magic, and not only that, I’m 1,000 meters away from them.”

My soul almost went out of my body.

  *After the basilisk was defeated.*

  Hooray!

This is a great achievement for Lady Amethyst.

Even though her methods are strange and forward, it clearly works.

I wonder where she picked that kind of fighting style. Is it from Head Soldier Greaves? No. He doesn’t train his soldiers like that. So where did she pick that up?

  What a dilemma.

I’m comfortably sitting outside the porch of this hut and watching everything unfold, which makes me want to know more.
