Chapter 8: First Day, Endless Shelves

14.49 cycle fourteen, Ba'seth, of calendar Moonrachia

Millenia mye Lilac, someone who came from a ducal family from the Arnentia Kingdom, whose family blood was blessed, each generation is guaranteed to give birth to a genius

She is the next heir of the family. The reason? Simple, cause she’s the current blessed one, the heir was chosen by their family blessing, which is their genius descendant to continue its blessing, rather than selected by sibling rivalry or skill

Such a thing as this could only exist in fiction, and yet I’ve watched it with my own eyes

The fact that they’re one of the duke family from this kingdom is pretty much explaining everything, they’ve got their own record in history, and such, hence most people knew it already

“Why did you stop moving your hand?” A cold voice could be heard from behind me

With that, I kept my hand busy, somehow. After the class ended, she said she needed to rearrange her office, which was as empty as a desert

And telling me to pick all of her archives, books, and such from her own laboratory room… which is in the furthest corner of the academy building

I don’t even remember how many times I’ve been gone back and forth from her office to her laboratory now, and I don’t even want to remember it

Such a cruel person, how could she decide to order me around? Do I look athletic to you? I’m a fucking mage for god sake

Ever since the transfusion, I never once used mana or magic until now, and even after hearing my mana is twisted? It's become more and more scary

I could have died the moment I used them, and I won’t know it

Hence, why I didn’t use any physical enchantment

“Does this look good now, ma’am?” I finally finished rearranging her office, the bookcases were now filled, with no space left

This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

Finally, this room looks like a real office room

But somehow she didn’t even take a glance here, and kept reading her books

“Did you arrange them properly in category and in order?” while flipping the pages of her book

“I’ve put them in each their own category, but what order?” While observing each book from its label, that’s now neatly placed in the bookcases

“Read the inside, don’t ask too many questions, each of the books has an order, and continuation.” Another flipping sound of pages could be heard, and somehow it made my blood boil a bit

How could I have supposed to know that? Wouldn’t she be doing it herself be faster? Isn’t this forced labor?

Picking the archives, books, and such already takes around 2 hours, and around half an hour to place them in each category… Now she expects me to read all of them to find the order?

It seems I’ll overwork myself on the first day of working… now, at least, I agree with Aronn, working is such a stupid thing to do

With a heavy sigh, and looking around the room, I finally put them each in order and category

Though I’ve worked more than 8 hours, should I protest tomorrow morning?

  The academy now feels quiet

The room was filled with artificial light

The atmosphere, the scenery of the room, and its quiet environment

This should bring me peace, if only a certain someone would leave already

She hasn’t moved from her chair since her class ended

And I worked myself like a fucking dog, bringing her this and that, could she at least clean her table from its snacks and lunch trash?

“Good work” she said while standing up from the chair

“Since I have no classes tomorrow morning, come find me here after lunch break” and then she leaves the room

“Finally” While stretching my entire body and looking at the world outside from the windows

While leaving the office, I couldn’t help but be amazed by her research archive. I’ve read like half of the content inside the archives. Since there were no labels and she wanted me to place them in order and category before

“Well, I didn’t have much choice but to read them anyway. It's pretty interesting though, although I didn’t understand most of it”

She was reverse engineering a certain language I didn’t know

Despite her shit personality, she’s indeed a genius, huh?

As I turned into the last hallway, I ran into Rheya. I guess she’s just finished her work?

I quickened my pace to catch up to her, and we walked side by side

“So? How is it working as an assistant?” She seems to have noticed my presence a long time ago, before I caught up to her

“I’m tired… I feel I could sleep for the entire month…” As both of us finally leave the academy gates

The world had somewhat turned dark, the street filled by artificial light that seemed to stretch far beyond my sight could’ve been seen

“Huh, it is? I thought being an assistant teacher wasn’t that busy. How did you even stay up this late?” She tilted her head forward to look at my face better, as if to observe whether I was lying or not

“How could I know? Better ask that Lilac young lady” While letting out a heavy sigh and shrugging my shoulder

“Well, she’s surely an interesting person, as far as I know, she’s been like that ever since she became a teacher. I heard she’s pretty much the same when still little” Then she was fastening her step

After a few steps, she takes a different turn from our homes, before waiting for me to catch up to her

“Let’s eat dinner here, since your big sister today is kind of in a good mood, don’t worry, I’ll pay for you, and I know you're pretty much broke” While waiting for me, at the front door of the restaurant

“Could I order an entire cow?” Before both of us entered the restaurant, which was full of people gathering

“If you want to die today, sure”
