Eddy Crumbleton

Nogdorf, Lester and Sammy flew like the wind (not literally) toward the unusual noise. Juniper, the wolf had knocked over Lucent’s statue and was rolling it like a bowling ball toward the other dark creature statues. Rat statues went flying up into the air, fox statues were knocked over, the bear statues teetered and good creatures ran out of the way before they toppled. Again and again, Juniper rolled Lucent’s statue into the others. Lucent’s head was knocked off of his body during one of the rolls.

Nogdorf and Lester and Sammy looked at each other. Nogdorf said, “Well, I guess I won’t be teaching Lester how to bring those dark creatures back from statues into breathing creatures.”

Sammy said, “Misser Noggy, them creatures finished. Why the wolf helpted our side?”

Juniper walked over to Sammy and said, “Lucent was just using us wolves to do his dirty work. He sent us into battle first to save himself and the other foxes and to see if it was safe for them. I have no loyalty to such a creep. Good riddance to bad rubbish,” and he walked over and rolled what was left of Lucent another time.

Lester brought up an interesting idea to Nogdorf. “I understand there are eight more tunnels that were dug to put the bombs in. Do we know where they are located?”

Nogdorf said, “No, but we know creatures who do. What are you thinking, Lester?”

“ Well, we have a bunch of dead dark creatures, the ferrets, rats and snakes and need to dispose of them. What if we buried them in the holes they already dug?”

Nogdorf started laughing. “ Very clever, Lester.”

Sammy looked at Nogdorf and started laughing too. He didn’t know why they were laughing, but he wanted to be like Nogdorf.

It was decided that the burial would happen the next day. However, the larger animals were not going to fit in the holes the rats had dug, so they would have to come up with another plan for them.

Nogdorf had one other errand he needed to attend to before going home. He went to Merina’s house. She fixed him a cup of tea and they chatted. In her squeaky little voice Merina asked Nogdorf, “Why are you really here? It isn’t for a cup of tea, is it?”

Nogdorf laughed and said, “You are really intuitive, Merina. Yes, I was so impressed with the protective armor you made, that I wanted to ask another favor. You know Lily Boar? Her house was blown up by one of the bombs and she needs clothes. Could you possibly make her a wardrobe of clothes?”

“Why I would be delighted to, Nogdorf,” she squeaked.

“Good, can you start tomorrow?” He asked.

Juniper’s revenge was complete, so she and the last stragglers of the dark creatures went home and all of the good creatures went to bed.

The next morning, it was all hands on deck. Nogdorf had them all digging a huge pit, at least the ones who were not taking the small creatures to the bomb holes. Merina was sewing for Lily. He still wasn’t sure how to get those huge bears down to the pit, so he worked on that aspect. Nogdorf called for the honey badgers and while he waited for them, he tied ropes around the bears. The pit was completed by mid afternoon with everyone working together, so the honey badgers started dragging the bears to it.

Nogdorf snapped his fingers, “ The wolves and foxes that died need to go in that pit too. I almost forgot,” he thought. To save on time, he clapped his hands and the bodies of the large animals raised up and started flying through the air to the pit. What a sight.

All of the dirt was filled into the hole again and their work was finished.

Nogdorf walked over to Merina’s house to gather up the clothes for his favorite boar, Lily. Merina asked Nogdorf to have a cup of coffee with her. He intuitively realized she had something she needed to discuss with him.

Sure enough, after fixing their coffee with plenty of cream and sugar, Merina said, “Nogdorf, could you tell me something about the little mouse from across the river, Eddy Crumbleton?”

“Well, Merina, I know who you are talking about. Would he, by any chance, be your new love interest?”

Merina blushed and nodded shyly, “Yes, Nogdorf. I think I like him….a lot. He doesn’t seem to know I am alive and, being a girl, I don’t want to be too pushy. Any advice?”

Nogdorf told her what he knew about the young mouse and then he came up with an idea to help her in her budding love life.
