A Gold Coin III

  (Third Person POV)

  [Later That Night]

Back at the restaurant, Samuel was sitting down at the same table he was at. He had spent most of the day, walking around and exploring the district he was in. He would often get strange looks from the citizens.

During his walk, he noticed that he only saw humans in the area of the City. He came to the conclusion that the district he was dropped off was mostly inhabited by humans, with the occasional orc and even a demon.

Because of a hunch, Samuel had decided to return to the restaurant, seeing that it was full of customers. As he was sitting on his table, he saw the young waitress walking around with a ptter in each of her hands. She had a warm smile on her face as she greeted customers, being met with smiles and ughter of their own.

Samuel was sitting down, watching the room intently, one of the gold coins in his hand. He twirled the coin in his finger, his eyes scanning the room. Only a few of the customers were gncing in his direction, but only with curiosity. This was a clear contrast to earlier that day, the men were gring daggers at him back then.

"Interesting. Different crowd now..." He thought to himself

He sat there for a couple more minutes, looking about the room as everyone was getting serviced. The waitress would then walk over to her, wiping her hand with her aprons.

"Goodness, my apologies." she said with a smile, "It got quite busy."

"It is fine." Samuel said, "I will have some of that roast beef, if you don't mind."

"Alright, no problem." She said, looking at the coin, "Are you going to pay with a gold coin again?"

Samuel tossed it to her, "Yes." He said, "Give me whatever you want that is covered with that."

  "Uhm, sure." She said, "But...."

"I spoke to your grandmother." Samuel told her, his eyes gncing to the side, "There is nothing to concern yourself with."

"Right." She said before walking to the side, bumping into the belly of a tall and burly man, "Oh! F-Father...."

The man was massive, standing around 6'6 and had bulging muscur arms. He was bald and had a thick yellow beard, his piercing brown eyes staring right at Samuel.

"You." He said, "Did my Mother-in-Law not speak to you?"

  Samuel looked at him, "Hm?"

"Those coins you have, they will bring nothing but trouble." He said

"I feel like a broken record here." Samuel muttered, "I already told your girl that there is nothing to worry about. Do you want the business or not?"

"If there's trouble, I will pce the bme on you." the man said

"Father...." The girl said, "You shouldn't start trouble."

"The trouble is started by strangers who don't know what they're doing." The Man said, "I warn you, boy, you'd best do yourself a favor and walk away."

  Samuel tipped his hat, "Hm."

"I don't know who you are or what pranks you are trying to pull." the Man said with a scowl, "But make no mistake, anyone that wields a hand-cannon is definitely not from here."

"You're not wrong about that." Samuel said, "I'm not from here."

"If I find out you are a spy from the Duskrend Kingdom, I''ll personally deliver you to the Dread Lords." he said seriously, "Make no mistake about that."

"Tensions are that high, huh?" Samuel asked, "While I don't want to cause any trouble, I'd rather you not threaten me. I am quite hungry."

"Give the man his food." The man scoffed, looking at the girl

He walked away, leaving his daughter alone with Samuel. Nobody had paid attention to this interaction, nobody but one individual in a dark corner. Samuel had immediately noticed this, his eyes gncing to a cloaked figure who was holding a mug.

"Uhm, I'll get you the food when I can." The girl said, "Sorry about my father."

"Don't worry." Samuel said, "Hey, how old are you?"

"Me?" She said, "I'm 18, why do you ask?"

"Oh." Samuel said, "Your Mother must be what, 36? 37?"

"38...." The girl said with a frown, "W-Why do you ask?"

"Interesting, interesting." Samuel tilted his head, "And can i guess that your Grandmother is at least 20 years older than her?"

"G-Grandma is 59, yes." The girl said, "Why do you want to know this?"

"Haha...." Samuel chuckled, "I was just curious. Your grandma looks good for her age, that is all."

  The girl blushed slightly, "Oh..."

"What's your name?" Samuel asked, "If you don't mind me asking."

  "Aryana." She said, "Yours?"

"Samuel." He said with a slight smile, "Nice to meet you. Anyways, I wanted to ask you something."

"what is it?" Aryana looked at him with curiosity

"Hooded guy in the far left corner." Samuel said, "How long has he been there and what did he order?"

Aryana gnced to the person he mentioned, spotting the hooded figure, "O-Oh...." She said, "It's been so busy, I didn't notice. It's a man, yes....he was here for around an hour or two. He only ordered mead and a simple piece of bread."

  "Hm...." Samuel said, "I see."

"Why do you ask?" Aryana asked

"Call it a hunch." Samuel said, "But I am afraid that I was wrong; trouble could be here already."

"Oh....Oh no." Aryana's face went a bit pale

"But I wouldn't worry about it." Samuel said, "I can take care of it."

As he said this, the hooded figure stood up abruptly and made his way over to the door, exiting the building and smming the door.

  Samuel looked at this, "Hm...."

"Should I call the guards?" Aryana asked

"No." Samuel slowly stood up, "I'll step outside, bring me my food when it's ready. I'll be right back."

  "O-Oh." She said

"I don't know any of these people or how the City works." Samuel thought to himself, "But are people willing to start shit over a simple coin? No, I don't think that's it. Call it a hunch, but I think I have accidentally stepped into something a bit deeper than a simple coin. No, the coin is but a coincidence. The System hasn't reacted to nearly anything, which I find strange. This intrigues me, though, I'll continue looking into it."

Samuel walked outside the building, closing the door behind him. He noticed that the light of the mpposts were illuminaing the stone street in front of him. He looked at both sides, seeing nobody on the empty street.

He then heard some faint voices to the side, causing him to walk towards out of pure curiosity. He walked over to the entrance of an alley and as he made the turn, he saw the owner of the restaurant, Elena, standing at the far end and speaking to a hooded figure.

"Please, I don't want any trouble." The mature woman said with a soft yet nervous tone, "I thought that was behind us."

"The Boss doesn't forget debts, woman." The hooded man said, "You do well to pay up or we'll collect in blood.....or body."

"W-What?" Elena asked, her face going pale

"You have a daughter and a granddaughter, don't you?" The man said, drawing a dagger slowly, "Maybe they can repay the debt, if you know what I mean"

"That debt was cleared years ago!" Elena excimed, "Can you people stop beating down dead horses? My husband lost his life all those years ago, the debt was-"

"The debt is still up!" the man pointed the knife at her, "Don't you dare forget!"

Elena took a step back, "P-Please..." She said, "I beg of you, I don't want the attention of the Dread Lords, not anymore. I've built a life here, we all did.....I don't want to jeopardize that!"

"You should've thought about that when you fucked with the Boss." the man said, spitting on the ground, "You have 24 hours, woman. If you don't have the gold, we'll come and take your girls as they watch you get raped."

Elena began to shake slightly, "N-No...." She said, "Please...."

"I don't want to warn you again." He said seriously, "The boss-"

"Ahem." Samuel cleared his throat, standing a few meters away from them, "Am I interrupting something?"

The man turned to look at him, "What?" he said, "Why don't you fuck off?"

Elena looked at him with surprise, "Y-You....!"

Samuel flicked the right side of his trench coat back, revealing his holstered gun, "I can fuck right off, alright." He said seriously, "But only after you leave the dy alone."

"Otherwise I'll have to put a bullet between your eyes."
