Chapter 18: Immeasurable disadvantage (PT.2)

Brandon didn’t seem to bat an eye. He didn’t move a muscle. Whatever Amneal was going to hit him with, he was certain he would take it head on.

He thought about charging in for Amneal, though he wasn’t sure if this move was baiting him for such a thing. Nothing had hit yet, raising red flags for Brandon.

Amneal grips his great bow as tight as he could. He almost wants to say sorry to his wife, as everything in him was telling him that he had come less prepared than expected. He had grown arrogant, on top of being so worried about his wife’s health, that he was around sixty percent less strong than he normally was. But he didn’t think not of it, on the way here.

Amneal was only at half of his normal strength when he fought Brandon the last time. He nearly killed him then, though the difference between the two now, was nearly night and day. It was obvious that his opponent wasn’t prepared last time, or even worse, was holding back. If only he had more time during their first encounter…

Brandon came to the conclusion that whatever came down on him, he would simply guard with his aura shield. He would then go in for the finishing blow, with a quick slash to his opponent’s throat. Though this was before the next course of action.

A strong bolt of lightning slams on top of Amneal without notice. Amneal embraces the attack and locks his attention on Brandon. Brandon watches as the strong radiation of flowing red energy mounts on top of his opponent. He quickly realizes that Amneal isn’t using the lightning as armor, similar as to what he could do with his mana in this form. He had somehow become a conductor to the lightning, channeling extra power from the sky itself for his next attack.

Brandon assessed that this next attack from his opponent would also be a ranged attack, as Amneal hadn’t even taken a step forward. Amneal slowly raised his great bow in Brandon’s direction, knowing that he was about to shoot everything he had left. Brandon welcomes this, raising both of his blades in front of him.

Storing mana within his blades, Brandon quickly charges up his own attack, almost instantly being ready to match whatever Amneal had in mind for him. Brandon didn’t have to wait much longer for Amneal to initiate a move. Amneal released it.

A strong force of red lightning flashes into Brandon’s direction. Brandon now ready with his own attack, launches two large wave projectiles upon cutting the air. These cuts form a horizontal and vertical motion, increasing in size the more it travels to meet Amneal’s attack.

The fire yellow and orange blended projectiles tackle Amneal’s attack, quickly nullifying it and heading for Amneal. Amneal is not only too warn out to move, but he is startled as well. The two projectiles drag some of the ground up along the way, with its immense force collapsing into Amneal and causing a massive explosion.

An explosion that echoes miles out. An explosion that shakes the ground. An explosion that does unnoticeable damage. An explosion that engulfs Amneal’s existence.

The explosion leaves nothing behind. A massive crater is now formed where Amneal once stood. Brandon dematerializes his blades with a low sigh to go with them. He now places his focus back on Ulysee, who now startles him with a strong scream. He rushes to her side, seeing that one of the pillars has collapsed from the explosion. Brandon hadn’t realized until now how much excessive magic he had used during the battle.

The barrier came down with the pillar, so Brandon was able to run straight through. Ulysee wouldn’t even sit up, resting on her side as she scrunched over in pain – clutching her stomach. Brandon felt helpless. He felt like a liar. He told her that she would be safe. That there wouldn’t be any pain involved. He hadn’t accounted for any mishaps. But this wasn’t even something his opponent had done. This was all his fault.
