Grace City, like most of the world in this modern age, is protected by a multitude of different magical girls wielding all manner of different powers, all respected, beloved, and merchandised by those they serve to protect. But not every magical girl is a princess, and not every outfit is frilled and adorable. Normal, underpaid gig worker Alice Decaras refused death itself, and was forcibly granted the abilities of a magical girl too stubborn to ever pass on to the afterlife.
