Chapter 4. Torrential Rain and the Vortex (2)

At Tamar’s mocking tone, the goddess revealed her fury in full. When she let out a roar, a torrential rain began to pour down. Then a massive gale swept through, forming a vortex. The vortex moved as if alive, tearing apart everything it touched. As it closed in at terrifying speed, Azael—who had brought Tamar and Ella—quickly scattered and evaded it.

“Honestly, you really don’t know when to keep your mouth shut. Just give the girl back, Tamar.”

At Azael’s words, the vines moved and returned Ella to him. As the torrential rain fell and the massive vortex raged, the crowd began to scream and flee. The soldiers also abandoned the fight and retreated. With the controlling soldiers gone, the slaves scattered in all directions.

As Ishtar swung her staff and chanted a spell, the torrential rain turned into arrows of water and poured down upon the group. As thousands of arrows rained down, Elaton raised his shield to block them, while Tamar pulled Azael and Ella toward her and entwined dozens of vines to form a rounded protective barrier, blocking the arrows. Eshiel, with swift movements, dodged the water arrows without hesitation and fired flaming arrows at Ishtar. However, they were blocked by walls of water and failed to deal any significant damage.

The battle began to turn heavily against the group. When they crouched to block the water arrows, the vortex charged at them. When they forced themselves to evade the vortex, the water arrows tore into their bodies instead.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

As the group was driven into a corner, Elaton ignored the arrows and charged at the goddess, striking her with a powerful blow. Ishtar deployed a wall of water, but even she staggered under his overwhelming strength. She twisted the trajectories of the water arrows and assaulted Elaton mercilessly. After being struck countless times, his rock-like body began to crumble little by little.

When Tamar sent vines to form a shield that blocked the arrows, Elaton attempted to ram the goddess with a body tackle. This time, Ishtar did not form a wall of water and instead stepped back, narrowly avoiding the attack.

A flaming arrow flew in, seizing the opening. Ishtar hastily evaded it, but the explosion burned part of her beautiful hair.

(How dare you! How dare you!)

Ishtar screamed in rage and hurled her staff away. The rain falling from the sky thinned, then stopped, and the vortex disappeared as well. As Ishtar shrieked, she began to grow larger and larger. Her beautiful appearance vanished, and black, serpent-like scales emerged across her swelling body. Growing to a size rivaling the tower that soared into the sky, she roared like a monster.

A mountain-like giant, as vast as the primordial Nephilim—this was her true form as the goddess of war.

Tamar muttered in a sulky voice, as if she had lost all motivation.

  “Ah… damn it.”

(*According to the Old Testament, the primordial Nephilim were said to be as large as mountains.)

At that moment, Ella, who was in Azael’s arms, opened her eyes. Azael looked down at her with a gentle expression and spoke.

  “Riana, are you conscious?”

Ella’s blood-soaked side began to heal in an instant.
