Chapter 5. The Giants

Ella’s wound was completely healed, leaving not even a trace behind. She staggered slightly, then stood upright. A faint light spread from her body like a halo. The light transferred to each member of the group and seeped into them. The large and small wounds on their bodies healed in an instant.

  “This is… Riana?”

At Elaton’s words, Ella answered with a smile instead. At that moment, a massive shadow swept over them. Ishtar’s enormous palm came crashing down toward them. The group scattered in all directions and avoided the attack. The granite floor was mercilessly shattered, leaving the imprint of the giant’s hand. Ella was caught in Eshiel’s arms and barely avoided the impact.

  “Riana… is it really Riana?”

  Azael explained.

“I’ve been keeping that child’s soul ever since Riana died. And I placed Riana’s soul into this girl. The child was destined to die anyway, so there was no other choice.”

As Ishtar’s next attack was about to begin, Tamar let out a battle cry. Massive vines burst through the ground and began to wrap tightly around the goddess’s body. Tamar’s eyes became bloodshot, and blood streamed from her nose. She screamed in agony.

  “Aaaah!”

When Riana, possessing Ella, reached out her hand toward Tamar, a white light enveloped her. The damage Tamar had taken and the loss of her strength were restored in an instant.

  “Amazing… welcome back, Riana.”

As Riana’s support began, power surged through the group, and they launched their attack on Ishtar. When Elaton slammed his body into the goddess’s foot, her massive body staggered. Eshiel formed the shape of a gigantic arrow out of flames and fired it. A massive explosion erupted across Ishtar’s face.

Driven into a corner, Ishtar suddenly let out a tremendous roar. The deafening cry became a shockwave that spread throughout the city. When her roar ended, strange changes began to occur across the city. Each citizen of Eridu began to swell in size, transforming into giants two to three meters tall. Their skin twisted, and their eyes grew dull. Soon, tens of thousands of giants lifted their heads toward the goddess.

  (Come.)

The goddess’s voice sounded as if it were scraping against bone. The ground trembled under the footsteps of the giants.
