Chapter 80: Wendy Personally Comes to Sign Someone

  "Cynthia?"

Grace pondered the name, as if she had some impression—she was the girl who had initially snatched her sister's role.

Taylor nodded repeatedly: "Yes, everyone present could tell she was doing it on purpose, but there's no way to say such things outright; she would never admit it."

Although the incident had happened days ago, Taylor still couldn't help feeling indignant for Chloe as she brought it up now.

Grace's expression remained calm, showing neither joy nor anger. She only asked: "Anything else?"

Taylor thought for a moment and shook her head: "No."

Edward then said, "Today, the promotions department released Chloe's promotional stills. Chloe has practically appeared out of nowhere. Given Chloe's current buzz, Cynthia probably wouldn't dare easily mess with her again."

Taylor also nodded: "Right. If Chloe chooses to sign with 'Golden Joe', then no one would dare bully her on her own company's set."

Hearing this, Grace looked at Taylor and smiled: "You hope she signs with 'Golden Joe'?"

Taylor stuck out her tongue a bit sheepishly and said frankly, "Of course. Actually, following Wendy is really good. She has extensive connections and a high status in the industry. She could help Chloe avoid many detours."

Taylor's words weren't false, because at that moment, as soon as Wendy appeared on the set, people kept coming up to greet her one after another.

  "Wendy! What brings you here!"

Veronica, seeing the crowd around Wendy had just dispersed, seized the opportunity to warmly approach her. Being from the same company, Veronica had always wanted the company to transfer her under Wendy's management because she knew following Wendy would definitely lead to better resources.

"Veronica, this look is beautiful," Wendy glanced at Veronica's makeup and styling for the day, and complimented her.

Veronica smiled sweetly and intimately linked arms with Wendy, asking, "Wendy, there aren't any artists under your management in this production, are there? What brings you?"

"I've taken a liking to a newcomer. Came to meet her, see if I can sign her," Wendy stated frankly.

Veronica was slightly taken aback, her smile freezing on her face.

Her eyes shifted as she probed: "Signing a newcomer requires you to come personally? You're not planning to manage her personally, are you?"

After all, newcomers at the company were usually assigned to the artist coordinator, who would then allocate them to a shared manager. That meant several newcomers would share one manager when starting.

A top agent like Wendy would only take on a newcomer after they had shown particularly outstanding results. Even Kim wasn't under Wendy's management until a year and a half into her career.

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

"What? Can't I take on a newcomer?" Wendy asked jokingly with a smile.

Veronica quickly shook her head: "That's not what I meant."

Then she started to whine: "Wendy, why don't you take me on, too? Talk to Jones, have me transferred under you. I want to learn more skills by following you!"

"You still need to learn more skills?" Wendy looked at her and said, "You've already won two mainstream Best Supporting Actress awards, and your popularity is good too. That's already quite an achievement. There's really not much more I could help you with."

"I'm still far from enough," Veronica refused to give up, saying with a pitiful expression: "You were the one who picked me from the crew back then. I signed with 'Golden Joe' because of you. I thought once I achieved something in the industry, I could follow you. But then they transferred me to Berg. You know what he's like—always wants to negotiate business at the dinner table, dragging me out for social engagements every day. It's so annoying."

"Don't let Berg hear you say that," Wendy's smile gradually faded as she heard this: "Berg has worried a lot for you all. Two months ago, he even drank until he had a stomach bleed. Do you really think he loves drinking? Isn't it precisely because deals are easier made over drinks that he chooses to do this?"

At this point, Wendy couldn't help but sigh. She said earnestly to Veronica, "You, as long as you work steadily, there will definitely be glory for you in the future. You keep wanting to come to me. I have Kim under me. You're still far from surpassing her achievements. Coming to me, you'd only be overshadowed by her. Isn't it good to be the top artist under Berg? He'll definitely prioritize you with the best resources he has. You should be content."

After hearing Wendy's words, Veronica pouted somewhat unwillingly: "You'd rather take on a newcomer than take me on."

Speaking of newcomers, Veronica couldn't help but glance at Wendy and probe: "You want to sign Chloe?"

  Wendy nodded.

Veronica's face instantly darkened. She knew this Chloe would inevitably rise to prominence one day. She had intentionally cut off her chance to be seen at the press conference back then, but she still ended up getting famous.

Now, even Wendy was willing to personally come to the set to sign her.

Though resentful inside, Veronica maintained a smiling expression on her face: "The girl is quite good. Everyone likes her."

On the filming set, the first scene between Chloe and Bryan was being shot. This was also the first time they were acting opposite each other after many days since filming began.

Grace and Jones were both quietly watching from the periphery of the set. Cynthia's father was also present.

On camera, both Chloe and Bryan's looks held up exceptionally well. Just a distant glance between them brimmed with chemistry. The director behind the monitor was grinning from ear to ear, seemingly wearing this expression every time he filmed Chloe.

This was also the first time Grace had watched her sister act live. She always knew her sister had talent, but she hadn't realized she was this good. As soon as the camera focused on her, she could quickly get into character.

  "Jones."

At that moment, Cynthia's dad suddenly approached Jones, patted him, and spoke in a lowered voice.

Jones cast him a questioning look. Because the filming set couldn't have loud noises, Cynthia's dad could only gesture with his eyes for them to talk somewhere further away.

Grace, noticing their interaction from the side, didn't pay it much mind, only watching as the two walked away one after the other, turning into a distant corner.

  "What is it?" Jones asked.

Cynthia's dad didn't look too pleased. Having just watched his daughter act, seeing her either serving tea and water or kowtowing and kneeling, he felt very uncomfortable.

So, after some hesitation, he said to Jones, "Jones, I hope you can change my daughter's role. I don't want to see her playing a 'maidservant'."

Jones was taken aback upon hearing this: "You must be joking. We've been filming for several days now. How can we change roles at this point? Everything filmed before would have to be redone! Besides, back when you invested, you specifically asked for this role. Filming isn't child's play. How can we just change roles on a whim?"

"I know. But I didn't understand the role back then; I just agreed after hearing my daughter. But now I really can't accept it. If you think five hundred thousand can only buy a maidservant role, I can increase my investment."

Jones shook his head helplessly: "I really can't agree to this. Not to mention the production currently doesn't lack investment. Even if we really did, I wouldn't agree to such an unreasonable request."
