"I actually understand how you feel, but we need to distinguish between on and off screen. Your daughter is portraying a role. It's perfectly normal for a new actor to start with small roles."
Jones' words were clear to Cynthia's dad. It's just that every time he saw his daughter, raised in luxury and pampered since childhood, playing such a servile, submissive role, he couldn't help but feel heartache.
After struggling for a while, he finally said, "Alright, Jones. Please talk to the director. Try not to have her kneel if possible."
Jones was somewhat speechless. How can you play a maidservant without kneeling? If you're so protective of your daughter, why let her become an actress?
But considering the other party was an investor, Jones ultimately nodded: "Then I'll discuss it with the director and screenwriter. We'll avoid having her kneel unless necessary."
Cynthia's dad finally showed a smile, though it still seemed somewhat forced. Clearly, he still didn't want his daughter to continue playing a maidservant, but had no other choice.
After one take finished, the crew swarmed around Chloe and Bryan. The assistant director even prepared two bouquets for them, congratulating them on their promotional photos smoothly reaching number one on the trending charts.
'Chloe, Bryan, you're amazing!'
'Chloe's follower growth is incredible! Hundreds of thousands across platforms in just a few hours!'
'Congratulations! The buzz is still rising. It'll probably explode by the noon traffic peak!'
'It's already exploding! The official blog comments have surpassed forty thousand!'
Everyone was full of enthusiasm. Chloe and Bryan could only nod and thank them repeatedly. From the periphery, Cynthia watched, her eyes red with jealousy. But what could she do?
Chloe's sudden fame today was phenomenal. Just one promotional photo had ignited the trending charts.
Also unhappy was Veronica. She watched coldly as Chloe was lavished with attention in the center of the set. In this production, how could it be a newcomer like Chloe stealing all the spotlight? Forget herself, even Jennifer was almost being overshadowed.
But then again, Veronica couldn't help but sneer. Being so fond of stealing the spotlight, how could Jennifer's fans possibly let her off?
Wait to be besieged!
Just then, someone from the promotions department suddenly arrived on set. Amidst the chaos, they pulled Chloe and Bryan aside: "Chloe, Bryan, both of you, come with me right now to shoot an additional set of promotional materials."
"Now?" Chloe was surprised. "I... I have another scene later."
Bryan nodded; they did indeed have another scene later.
"No problem. At most half an hour. Let's shoot quickly. Strike while the iron is hot today, follow up on the victory! We'll release them tonight!"
One had to admit, the promotions department at 'Golden Joe' was both professional and relentless, seizing any sliver of opportunity to pull people for an extra photo shoot.
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Chloe could only follow, looking a bit bewildered. Not far away, Veronica, seeing this, quickly chased after them.
An additional photo shoot?
She was the one who needed it the most!
Since they were on set without a professional studio, the promotions team decided to use the set as the backdrop for this photo shoot, aiming for a natural, vibrant feel. The location chosen was a garden area with artificial rockeries and a pavilion.
'Okay, girl, show a satisfied, happy feeling, look up slightly at the sky. Guy, from behind, wrap your arms around the girl's waist, and gently rest your chin against her temple. Get a bit closer, sweeter. The fans love that.'
'Excellent, excellent! One more set. Chloe, run, let the gauze skirt fly...'
With the experience from the first promotional shoot, Chloe was more at ease this time. She satisfied the promotions team in one go, shooting three sets before they were willing to stop.
"Is that okay, teacher?" Chloe asked, slightly out of breath.
The photographer, flipping through the photos on the camera, gave a satisfied 'OK' gesture: "More than okay. If everyone were as photogenic as you two, our promotions department would have it so much easier."
Another person chimed in with a smile: "Exactly! The pictures don't even need editing. The raw shots look even better!"
Chloe's mind was still on her next scene. After hurriedly thanking the promotions team, she left with Bryan.
Only then did Veronica rush out, stopping the departing promotions team in their tracks with a swift step.
The group was startled. Recognising Veronica, they instinctively showed evasive expressions.
The entire promotions department had received internal notice: all future promotions for 'Destined to be Queen' were not to include any materials related to Veronica. They didn't know why, but clearly, Veronica was currently in a state of soft boycott. At least before this drama airs, she couldn't participate in any promotions.
"Veronica, is there something? We're in a hurry."
After all, she was a popular actress. Although the promotions team didn't know the details, surface-level respect was still necessary.
Veronica looked at them, frowning and questioning: "In a hurry to shoot additional photos for a newcomer? But no time to notify me for a reshoot?"
Upon hearing this, they chuckled awkwardly: "What are you saying, Veronica? We're just following orders. These are all tasks assigned by Colin."
"Don't give me that runaround," Veronica naturally didn't believe it. But she absolutely needed to reshoot her promotional photos. She immediately looked at the person carrying the camera and commanded: "Turn on the camera. I want to reshoot now!"
"Veronica, don't make things difficult for us. Isn't this just wasting our promotions department's time?"
"Wasting your time? Weren't you the ones who said my set of photos was lost, the negatives were lost? You didn't notify me for a reshoot, and now you're saying I'm wasting your time?" Veronica's voice rose angrily, almost cracking.
They exchanged helpless glances. Finally, the person in charge, considering past dealings, revealed some information to Veronica: "Veronica, you're not new to the industry. Given the current situation, you should be able to guess something. We're just the ones executing tasks down here. The decisions are made by the people above. We can only follow orders."
"Even if you reshoot these promotional photos, it's useless. They'll just get 'lost' again. Do you understand?"
This statement was very clear. It was telling Veronica that her promotional photos wouldn't be released. The people above weren't allowing it!
Veronica did have her suspicions, but hearing it hinted at so clearly still shocked her.
Why?
Why specifically couldn't hers be released? Had she offended someone?
"Eh, Veronica, why don't you go ask Jones? He happens to be on set today. I think without Jones giving the word, Colin wouldn't dare either."
Veronica suddenly woke up. Yes, this could only come from Jones. Otherwise, who in the company had such power to trip her up so badly?
Meanwhile, Jones and Grace were hiding in an air-conditioned room, enjoying the cool air and chatting.
"This weather, the actors really suffer. Just watching one scene made us sweat buckets," Jones said, taking a chilled juice from a small fridge and handing it to Grace.
Grace took it and thanked him, then asked naturally: "That gentleman, is Cynthia's father?"
