Chapter 5: Love is not easily angered, It keeps no records of wrong.
“He did it. That son of a bitch did it! I cannot believe he did this to me. After all the garbage about ‘no hard feelings’ and ‘the best man won’, he is actively working to squirm his way into steeling this from me. I will not allow him to succeed!” ranted Cynthia stomped around the house while getting ready for work. It had been nearly 2 months since that meeting, and Cynthia was still enraged by what happened. She has been forced to work with George and run all her ideas "passed" him in the spirit of “teamwork”. "It's so insulting that I have to do this, like I need training wheels and cannot do the work. Every time I have to include his name as an email cc I feel the burn of rage build up." She screamed, "AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!"
“That’s right… let it fester. Unforgiveness, you did well by inviting Anger and Hatred to the party.” quipped Ahab as the four of them continued to trigger bouts of rage within Cynthia. They enjoyed it, every burst of rage spoken reinforced their hold over her and strengthened the tie. “After all these years, you still cannot accomplish anything by yourself. Worthless” sneered Jezebel to Ahab. Her contempt for him was radiating off her. She hated that even with all that authority the man was so useless that he could not exercise anything without having to recruit others to come in and do the work. Jezebel knew that she would win, Ahab always chose the useless and they were always so desperate to be accepted. She had no respect for him or his slaves. She purposefully moved to abuse them because she hated that they had what she could not have.
George got to work perky. “Hey Jude, how are things going?” he said, leaning over the desk seductively, “I’m doi..” before Jude could finish, George started “where’s Cynthia? she’s late again? She really needs to be careful you know. Other’s have noticed and they are talking.” He seemed giddy. Behind the polished teeth and plump lips was a forked tongue that spoke venom. Jude smiled back politely and said “You should really warn her so that she doesn’t get into trouble.” “Neah, she’s a big girl. Cynthia can take care of herself…” He turned and saw Cynthia walking towards them, “Speaking of, Hey Cynthia! How are you?” he said cheerily. Cynthia’s jaw clinched, “Hi George, I’m good thanks and you? Jude can I see you in my office please”. “Sorry George, I’ve got to go.” Jude said, “No worries, I’m here if you need me Cynthia” yelled George as he walked back to his desk.
The promotion.
“That man. He has always been insipid but of late he just grates me even more. It’s like he’s teasing me by pretending to find you attractive and flirt with you because he knows that I liked him…” Cynthia told Jude as they walked into the office. “Oh, I didn’t realise you two had a history with each other?” “What history! I confided in a friend over coffee and that wench told him the same day. It’s been nearly two years of continued tormenting. But he does it so slyly that I cannot go to HR or lodge complaints. He’s such a snake…” she retorted, then mumbled to herself “I need to find a way to beat him at his own game…”
“What did you want to talk with me about?” asked Jude, “Actually nothing. I just didn’t want you talking with George… I don’t trust him…” she replied. She motioned that Jude could go back to his desk. He left the office with her still mumbling under her breath and deep in her own thoughts.
Later that day Cynthia and Jude were having lunch together. “Can I ask you a question Cynthia?”, “Go ahead…”, “Were you and George both up for the promotion to Strategy Manager?”, “Why what have you heard?!?”, “Uhm, nothing, It just seemed like Georges actions may be explainable if he was also up for the promotion but didn’t get it?”. Cynthia paused for a while and then told the story…
“Oh okay, that makes more sense” acknowledged Jude. “That’s why I think he does what he does said Cynthia, He’s always been second fiddle to somebody – even when he was in high school, he was always second best. So I think he has a lot of issues because of that, it’s very triggering for him when he does not win.” explained Cynthia. “But then don’t you think that we need to try and support him more and be there for him?” suggested Jude, “I’ve tried Jude. He does not respond to kindness – he views it as a weakness that he can exploit.”
The payback.
Jezebel and Ahab were watching the discussion between Jude and Cynthia. “It does not seem to be affecting Jude. That glow he’s had for the past two months doesn’t seem to be getting dimmer.” Ahab said, “Yes, I’ve noticed that too. It reminds me of Elijah’s mantel. Do you remember how it used to glow when El Shaddai’s Glory fell on him?” asked Jezebel. “I do actually. I used to hate seeing him glowing. It always meant that he was coming to tell me something from God that I did not want to hear. Do you think this one has been sent?” asked Ahab, “I don’t know yet… He seems so oblivious? Elijah was strong and unafraid. He had power – He killed 400 of my prophets? He called down the Glory Fire of God from heaven onto the alter that burnt everything up? But this one has only a glow and seems so ignorant of everything.” she replied.

“I don’t know either” said Ahab, not that Jezebel had asked or cared for his opinion. “I caused Cynthia to hire this guy to spite your guy.”, “Yes, I remember telling you to do that…” said Jezebel. Ahab looked at her confused thinking “No you didn’t”. He knew better than to argue so he just left it. “I’ve been working on George for a long time Ahab. I know this man – I have modelled his thoughts and patterned his mind. He will do what we want.” said Jezebel, “It’s always the same with these people… A simple thing – being chosen second instead of first for a team, not being selected class representative… Their fragile ego’s break and they become offended. Their offense is delicious to me. George’s vanity is very useful too… he loves to preen and make himself beautiful, and the people love it. Every facial cleanse, every manicure, every haircut – praises to my ears, worship at my alter.”
“He has been a useful tool so far”, said Ahad. “More than useful” shouted Jezebel, “What? do you think that whiny trash that you picked could accomplish anything? She is less than dirt – how Earth even brought her forth is beyond me. And you? You have no power, since Elijah. But it’s fitting that you chose her because you are as snivelling and whimpering as she is” Ahab cowered away as Jezebel continued laughing and mocking him, “do you remember how you cried like a baby when you couldn’t get the vineyard”, she laughed even harder, “so pathetic! A KING!!” she mocked, “but so useless and weak that he couldn’t get a worthless peasant to sell him a property?!?”, she laughed uncontrollably, “you even offered him money and he still said no…” At this point, Ahad had just tuned out. He had become used to these types of mocking spirals from Jezebel – three millennia together and you develop coping mechanisms. He also knew that she would not even recognise that he wasn’t paying attention. He chuckled to himself thinking “that one time I even left the room and this self-absorbed whore didn’t even know I was gone… she just continued to mock and ridicule nothing…”
“Where are you going Ahab.” a sharp, pointed voice said. Ahab froze recognising he has misread the moment. Jezebel was aware of what was happening. “We have work to do here.”
Ba’el.
“After a long time, in the third year, the word of the LORD came to Elijah: “Go and present yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the land.” So Elijah went to present himself to Ahab.
Now the famine was severe in Samaria, and Ahab had summoned Obadiah, his palace administrator. (Obadiah was a devout believer in the LORD. While Jezebel was killing off the LORD’s prophets, Obadiah had taken a hundred prophets and hidden them in two caves, fifty in each, and had supplied them with food and water.) Ahab had said to Obadiah, “Go through the land to all the springs and valleys. Maybe we can find some grass to keep the horses and mules alive so we will not have to kill any of our animals.” So they divided the land they were to cover, Ahab going in one direction and Obadiah in another. As Obadiah was walking along, Elijah met him. Obadiah recognized him, bowed down to the ground, and said, “Is it really you, my lord Elijah?” “Yes,” he replied. “Go tell your master, ‘Elijah is here.’”
“What have I done wrong,” asked Obadiah, “that you are handing your servant over to Ahab to be put to death? As surely as the LORD your God lives, there is not a nation or kingdom where my master has not sent someone to look for you. And whenever a nation or kingdom claimed you were not there, he made them swear they could not find you. But now you tell me to go to my master and say, ‘Elijah is here.’ I don’t know where the Spirit of the LORD may carry you when I leave you. If I go and tell Ahab and he doesn’t find you, he will kill me. Yet I your servant have worshiped the LORD since my youth. Haven’t you heard, my lord, what I did while Jezebel was killing the prophets of the LORD? I hid a hundred of the LORD’s prophets in two caves, fifty in each, and supplied them with food and water. And now you tell me to go to my master and say, ‘Elijah is here.’ He will kill me!” Elijah said, “As the LORD Almighty lives, whom I serve, I will surely present myself to Ahab today.”
So Obadiah went to meet Ahab and told him, and Ahab went to meet Elijah. When he saw Elijah, he said to him, “Is that you, you troubler of Israel?” “I have not made trouble for Israel,” Elijah replied. “But you and your father’s family have. You have abandoned the LORD’s commands and have followed the Baals. Now summon the people from all over Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel. And bring the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.” So Ahab sent word throughout all Israel and assembled the prophets on Mount Carmel. Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” But the people said nothing. Then Elijah said to them, “I am the only one of the LORD’s prophets left, but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets. Get two bulls for us. Let Baal’s prophets choose one for themselves and let them cut it into pieces and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD. The god who answers by fire – he is God.” Ahab recoiled after recalling the events of the day he allowed Elijah’s God to confront Ba’el. He knew that Jezebel had never forgiven him after that day. He knew that Jezebel consulted Ba’el and Asherah before she took her vengeance. He watched her anger and rage fester into Murder.
