Arc 2, Chapter 18 - The Hurt Wars Bring, Part Two

Prior to hearing that, Mitchel thought Ken had a splendid idea. But hearing him say that, made his mood turn sour.

  Has he truly given up?

Ken was even laughing while he pointed at the big fleet above. This is truly, him laughing at the "inevitable" doom that is Death, staring right at him.

Or it was just a psychological coping mechanism for this pathetic kid who gave all he had for White Eye and was now going to die in the battlefield?

Mitchel wasn't going to let it slide though. Hell, he is NOT going to die in this god-forsaken battlefield.

"Who knows... We might pull this off. I'm Mitchel Reeds, by the way." Mitchel said, introducing himself.

"Ken Magami. If you say that we can pull it off, hit me. I'm all ears at this point."

  Mitchel sighed and looked up.

"It's pretty damn hard to destroy an entire fleet, let alone the two of us. We'd need the support of Megami Duvet and the rest, and if possible, a big fucking cannon or something." Mitchel scratched his head, wondering how they'll defeat the N.S.C.

"Have you tried going in the fleet and doing it the Ghost Assassin way? Just kill the main coordinators and the entire fleet will back down, or something like that." Ken asked, his voice turning serious.

"Agh..." It was an amazing idea, but not one that nobody has thought of. After all...

It was the main objective of Megami Duvet and Evto Mugen.

"That can't happen... not in the state I am in now. My armour is battle-scarred, some of my equipment are damaged and my weapons are not in the best condition. I am a weapon, not an assassin." Mitchel was a weapon, a blunt weapon. He can't infiltrate a whole fleet, sneak up to the commanders and kill them all.

While Mitchel was blasting the N.S.C fools, he had a realization.

"...Say... do you think any of the N.S.C squads left one of their ships on the ground?"

Ken turned to Mitchel, revelling at Mitchel's brilliance. "... We're going to board a ship!?"

Mitchel nodded. "That's the only way. I'm so fucking tired of fighting on the ground. This suit of armour isn't made for this. I'm a warrior, but piloting comes second. Do you know how to fly a spaceship?"

Ken's jaw dropped. "Do I know how to fly a spaceship!? Who do you think I am, some common soldier!? I’m a Revenger, mind you." Ken's face was getting redder.

  Mitchel looked at him,

  And laughed.

  "..."

  "..."

  "..."

  ...

  "You're mocking me."

  “You’re mocking me, aren’t you?”

The laughter stopped, and Mitchel now surveyed the battlefield, trying to find a ship. There had to be one.

"I'm just fucking with you. Let's go find a ship. It's possible there are some. We can go around and look before all the chaos rains down."

  Ken sighed and looked up.

Mitchel and Ken were now 15 meters apart, looking for a ship. The battle was getting a bit too intense, and the ground was getting a bit too crowded.

"The squad I just cleared through landed somewhere east. They might've left their transport there. Do you mind covering me while I go and check? Okay thank you!"

"Yeah, and leave me out here to- HEY, WAIT UP!"

  Mitchel was already walking away.

"I'm not going to cover your ass!"

"You are going to cover my ass or we'll both die! Don't let any of these assholes follow me!"

  "Goddamn figures, ughhh." Ken grumbled.

A couple kilometers away from where they stood, a huge explosion shook the very battlefield itself. It was a Septo Corp. bombardment, a big one. The blast radius was so vehemently big that everyone in the battlefield were knocked back, and Ken Magami was sent flying, smashing straight into the walls of a small factory.

  "AH!"

Everyone in the kill zone was either disintegrated or left so scorched or burnt that they would die in the very next second. The bloodcurdling screams took over the war noises for a whole minute, reminding everyone that this, could or is their destiny.

  Death is always near.

Body parts flew around in the sky like it was a flock of birds. Blood painted the sky above and rained down like a red white-out. The explosion was a dense hydrogen bomb. Very dense in fact that it was made to shorten the blast radius and maximize hellish destruction.

You know for certain that every bit of information, chemistry and life of anyone in the kill zone was evaporated. Even those with Souls, gone with no Soul-Residue or Aura to be traced.

It's like they poofed out of existence. It was an instant kill. Picoseconds long.

"KEN!! KEN!" Mitchel was searching frantically for his comrade, the man who would cover him and keep him safe. The man who would be the perfect person to go into space, with.

"Fuck... Holy shit..." Ken watched the explosion from afar, realizing death is playing all of them like a fiddle.

"What kind of weapon is that?" Mitchel paused to look at the carnage, the explosion and the fire that it created.

"... Definitely not something White Eye has up their sleeve. Damn... Nextellar has cool tech."

An N.S.C ship was nearby, funnily enough not damaged by flying body parts and shrapnel. It was the same from the squad that was guarding the factory Mitchel and Ken were dropped into.

Mitchel took notice of this and ran to the ship. "It's a cool lightshow, but we'll make a better one! Come on! Let's take that ship and blow them all away!"

Ken stood there for a few more seconds, watching the carnage and the flames, before he too ran to the ship. "Let's do it."

Mitchel reached the transport and climbed up, opening the hatch to enter. Ken would follow suit, jumping up and climbing in from the hatch. Mitchel fired up the engines and immediately took pilot seat.

"...If you can fly steady, then we'll be fine." Ken said. "If this doesn't work, I doubt Nextellar would keep prisoners."

"Yup. No prisoners, only trophies. That's Nextellar's ideal." Mitchel mused. "... You will have to take the reins for this moment. Don't kill both of us. Try to fly us to the one with the cannon. I'm going to try and shut it's power down."

"You can't possibly be asking me to fly the ship, right?" Ken frowned.

"Do you want me to make full use of my abilities, or do you want me to babysit you for the whole godass ride?" Mitchel turned his head to Ken. "You're a Revenger, not a pussy. Just steady does it."

Ken sat down and took the steering wheel. "Ugh... I don't like this."

"Oh, stop whining and drive. Don't make me regret choosing you as my wingman, 'Captain' Magami. I'll open the hatch and give you the signal."

"Roger, Captain Reeds." Ken chuckled and put his foot down.

Mitchel climbed up to the hatch, standing on one of the upper rungs so that his torso and arms were sticking up. "The cannon, there! Fly to it!"

"Won't be an easy challenge with those incoming ships they have!" Ken responded.

Ken may have the wits and brawn, but his ability as a driver isn't really top tier. Mitchel started getting motion sickness due to Ken being unable to pilot the ship in stable altitudes.

"Oh for fuck's sake...!" Mitchel groaned. "It's just one slight push of the stick, how are you this bad!? Hold it together, hold it together!"

"Don't tell me what to do, I know exactly what I'm doing!"

"You're literally about to crash into the- SHIT, LOOK OUT!!"

They almost crashed into a "fellow" N.S.C. ship.

"Damn, almost crashed... Hey, you okay?"

"F-fuck you..." Mitchel was holding his mouth, trying not to puke. "Just... fly straight. STRAIGHT. Jolt the stick up and gently strafe to the right, okay?"

  "Okay."

  "Okay?"

"Yeah, okay, okay. Now hold on."

"Don't worry about those incoming ships, they won't fire at us, we're hogging a N.S.C ship, dammit! Focus on the cannon, and don't crash us into a god-damm- OH SHIT, THAT WAS A LITTLE CLOSE. YOU HIT THAT SHIP ON THE RIGHT WING."

  "Sorry, it was an accident."

"No, no. No! You can't just 'accidentally' hit an enemy ship. What are you, blind??"

"I can't cope if you keep complaining!"

  "I'm not complaining, I'm instructing!"

  "Same difference."

"It is not the same- Can you like, stop yap- Oh fuck, another one- DODGE. DODGE, GODDAMNIT!!"

The ship was now at a horizontal 75-degree angle, heading towards the cannon. Mitchel did his best to remain balanced and was even using his Soul to generate a field of electricity around his hands and feet. If he hadn't, he would have fallen 250 meters from the ground below.

[R] - "SHIP NUMERAL 2332923, STATE YOUR REASON FOR RETURNING FROM BATTLEFIELD."

One of the N.S.C ship commanders spoke through the comms.

  "...Fuck... what do I-"

"Just say you're picking up new soldiers or something. This is a transport ship after all, you see any weapons in this awful cockpit?" Mitchel was clearly stressed.

[R] - "SHIP NUMERAL 2332923, AWAITING RADIO SILENCE BREAK, I REPEAT, STATE YOUR REASON."

"...This is... uhh, Captain Mag- I mean pilot sir! Just... on my way back to pick up more soldiers...........copy."

  Awfully bad from Kenny Magami.

  "..."

  "..."

  "..."

There was silence for a moment, and it felt like an eternity.

  The radio then cracked.

[R} - "SHIP NUMERAL 2332923, YOUR REQUEST FOR MANPOWER RETRIEVAL IS ACCEPTED. DOCK AT HANGAR BAY 24. TURN OFF ANY POSSIBLE RADIO FUNCTIONS AND MAKE SURE YOUR LOGS ARE UPDATED. YOU HAVE 3 MINUTES."

  "Yes. Yessir." Ken said.

The ship was now 40 meters away from the cannon, which was firing its laser blasts every 2 seconds. The heat was starting to become unbearable.

"...Alright, Mitchel. The window is open now."

"Yup." Mitchel poked his upper body through the window - holding the bolt like a javelin as he lined up a throw. Purposefully trying to aim for the center of the capital ship.

  "Ready?"

  "Yeah."

  "Now!"

He launched the bolt, propelling it across the air with the sheer amount of electricity he poured into it. The bolt would grow in size as it begun reacting with the charges in the clouds, a large thundering-like noise following as it flew toward the ship. It would glow as if a torch in the dark, brighter than any other missile or laser the other ships were firing.

This isn't just some regular EMP blast.

This is to cook an entire ship in an oven.

The javelin would hit dead-center of the ship, an artificial screaming noise droning out any other sound in the battlefield. The capital ship and any fighters around it would be surrounded by a yellowy-blue lightning aura before it exploded, as the lights and power of those affected would suddenly cut off.

With the lack of power to engines, the N.S.C ships begun to fall out of the sky, with the capital ship taking the longest as it was the biggest.

  "HAHAHAH! NICE ONE, MITCHEL!"

"WOOH! WHAT DID I SAY? I AM THE LIGHTNING, BEFORE THE THUNDER. THAT'LL TURN THE TIDES!" He poked back inside the ship.

Several N.S.C ships would open fire at them, before getting hit by the EMP radius.

"Oh FU- DESCENDING!" Ken tried to rotate the ship downwards. "We'll experience some G's!"

"Now I'm counting on you not to crash!"

"What do you mean! I crash all the time!"

"You what- AHHH! GODDAMMIT! JUST GO DOWN, FUCK!"

Mitchel climbed into the seat next to him, buckling in so that he wouldn't end up flying from the impact of any increasing turbulence. The ship would quickly fall apart as it was previously damaged in combat.

  "Crash... LANDING!"

Ken couldn't land the ship properly because the engines were damaged. He tried his best to land onto piles of bushes to mitigate the impact.

The war itself would slowly come to and end as the White Eye against the Nextellar, Septo Corp. and Dark Intrinium were in a status quo. Dark Intrinium took an observer role and did not interfere.

"Ugh... you okay, Mitchel?" Ken was holding his stomach.

"Y-yeah... I'll live." Mitchel was in a similar state.

They were both pretty much unharmed.

  "..."

  "..."

"We did it, Mitchel... That attack of yours sealed the deal." Ken kicked the hatch open, climbing out.

"...Don't just credit me, I couldn't have done it with your... gods bless... BAD flying." He followed, rubbing his head under his helmet.

"A victory for us either way! "

N.S.C ships crashed down, painting the sand further red. However, Ken was treating them like fireworks, bowing as he watched total annihilation occur just before him.

"..." Mitchel just stared at him.

  Victory for the White Eye.

  -

"I want this sector specifically to be bombarded. Cluster rounds, if you may." The N.S.C leader, Evtoria Mugen, locked in where Megami and Evto previously were.

The main fleet that Evtoria was on, had a massive cannon beam at the front of it. It resembled that of the Death Star in a fiction called Star Wars. A piece of fiction from long ago, ancient almost.

  "Roger."

"Make sure to avoid the other sectors, though. We have to keep the supplies intact. It is our reason for being here."

  "Yes, ma'am."

  "Good. Begin."

A large, yellow energy beam would be generated, aimed towards the sector where Megami and Evto were. It was a slow and steady approach, and it could not be dodged.

  "You're kidding, right...?"

But it didn't fire. And it was thanks to Mitchel and Ken's teamwork.

"What's the issue now!?" Evtoria put her hand on her chin, tapping the table.

  "It's... jammed, ma'am."

  "Jammed!? Un-jam it!"

"I'm sorry, ma'am. We can't. The energy beam isn't responding. Something must have fried the circuits. Maybe an EMP blast?"

And at the same moment the commander said it, the ship would take more damage.

"AGH! SHIP HAS TAKEN DAMAGE! The control systems are severely malfunctioning!" The whole bridge command was collapsing under the EMP.

Because the ship took EMP damage, Megami entered the ship without alerting the command unit of unauthorized access.

Evtoria sighed as she stood from her seat. This was the perfect chance to take Nextellar out from the inside.

Megami would walk from the back of the ship, checking every room. She wasn't the stealthiest, but the crew on the ship had their ears plugged to the sound of the explosions outside.

"I know you're here, Evtoria Mugen..." Megami mumbled, having her BOA ready.

Eventually, she almost reached the bridge command, where Evtoria was. N.S.C members would attack Megami by shooting but she had her Soul-Barrier on the entire time.

Soul-Barriers can subconsciously be maintained to prevent assassinations or surefire hits to damage them completely. In addition, this saves them from bullets, lasers and other means of "pathetic" attacks.

This is why Soul-Wielders are on a whole other level. Those without a Soul simply cannot fathom being able to injure, let alone touch a Soul-Wielder.

  It is simply impossible.

Some N.S.C members would then jump off the ship in an act of suicide, and some would brace for impact. A fight between Soul-Wielders means total Armageddon, especially when they are the same class of Soul.

"Ma'am...?" Evtoria would simply leave the bridge command. Only minutes before the capital ship would imminently crash to the surface.

"I know you're here, Mugen..." Megami said again, looking around while maintaining her balance in the falling ship. Megami now made it to the bridge command, questioning the commanders.

"Where's Evtoria Mugen." Megami wasted no time and immediately held her segmented blade at their throats.

"A-ABANDONING SHIP! SHE WENT TO THE HANGAR!"

After saying "thank you" to the cooperating commanders, she walked out before beaming the window of the unit, causing everyone to be flung out of the ship by the air pressure.

It almost seemed evil to do it, but their acts during the battle caused so much suffering to White Eye, she could not let them live any longer.

She would now run as fast as she could to the hangar of the fleet, dodging corners and vaulting over obstacles until eventually, she caught Evtoria closing in on her own personal ship.

"Hold it right there, Mugen." Megami would say.

  "..."

"... Megami Duvet, or "Thousand Leaves" as they call you... No matter what you try, I won't die. Not here. Not ever." Evtoria said.

"You have been the cause of too many deaths, Mugen. And that will end today. Seriously, establishing a war pact with Dark Intrinium? You've hit a new fucking low."

"They offered me manpower, resources, enough to wipe your smirk off the face, and your whole organization. You've seen nothing yet. I'm merely getting started."

"... I believe killing you will ease up my tensions. After this war is done, Dark Intrinium will be ne-"

"And just what makes you think that you, alongside your war-torn organization can stop Dark Intrinium? Face it. You can't just stop a galactic empire, one of the most powerful organizations in the galaxy. They are far stronger than us, and they have an army of millions, even billions."

  "..."

"I am aware of the threat that Dark Intrinium poses. But we are still fighting. We are still standing. So as long as I am alive, I will fight. That is a promise. One day, Dark Intrinium will have a reckoning."

"Lord Kytron died, and what changed?" Evtoria said. "Nothing. The world still revolves, and we're still killing each other."

"Your words mean nothing to me."

  "..."

  "..."

Megami would then beam her ship, destroying her only means of escape.

Evtoria simply didn't care and fully turned around now.

"You didn't come here for nothing, after all... Now didn't you!?"

Evtoria shot out a wall of crystallized spikes at Megami, prompting her to dodge or die.

Megami beamed through the wall by engulfing herself in her own beams. She would re-manifest BOA, slashing through any crystallized spike that hindered her movements, and kicked Evtoria to the ground.

"Ah-!" Evtoria fell to the ground, dispersing an ice wall to shield herself from Megami and recover. All Megami could do is bump into the ice wall, stepping back. At this point, Megami knew that the only way to defeat Evtoria now is to beam through.

Ice corrodes her blades, but beams don't.

  They disintegrate ice.

She used Composite Destruction to completely decimate the ice wall and charged forward. Evtoria retaliated by throwing more spikes at her.

Since the hangar was so wide, Evtoria was able to distance herself from Megami, allowing for more precise and thought-out spike throws.

Megami was forced to use her agility to her best, elegantly evading the spikes and kicking off a ship's wing to slash a composite of ice in pieces.

Not losing any equilibrium, she would turn around and kick another incoming spike away, sending it flying somewhere else. And with that out of the way, Megami would try and slam her composite sword down on Evtoria.

"SHIT!" Evtoria quickly formed a crystallized weapon to block it.

What Evtoria didn't know is that BOA can be used like a whip. Megami's composite sword would wrap around her crystallized weapon and yanked it out of her hand.

Evtoria was utterly defeated at this point.

"...It's clear I am no match to a fundamental.” She looked down.

  It's a clear recurring theme.

The hurt wars bring, the blood, sweat and tears that are continuously shed.

  Meticulous planning,

  Sublime marksmanship,

  Intelligent strategies.

  Humans were made to hunt.

Humans were apex predators in the stone ages.

They were the most intelligent of all.

They ruled the world, and now they rule the galaxy.

But a recurring theme is that for every good thing humanity has accomplished, annihilation, death and destruction would follow suit.

Humans were made for war, not peace.

  Humans love chaos.

And with it they bring pain.

But they don't necessarily like pain.

  They are hypocritical creatures.

And this is a lesson that should be learnt,

  by everyone.

"You will suffer the consequences of your actions, Evtoria."

  "..."

  "No... You'll simply pay."

9 halos would form around her hand, clearly attempting to charge Composite Beam to obliterate her. She wanted no Soul-Residue. She wanted nothing.

"Evto..." Evtoria would mutter, turning her attention towards him.

  "..."

Megami stopped, slowly turning her head to Evto.

  "Don't be a killer, Duvet."

Megami looked at Evto for 10 more seconds, before the 9 halos around her faded away.

"You're telling me to spare this warmonger?"

"She is my sister, Duvet. Evil or good, I will protect her."

Another reason that war only brings pain.

  "Don't, Duvet."

Evto would take a battle stance, ready to fight Megami if that was what it took.

  "..."

"Tch." Megami dematerialized BOA and turned around to leave the ship. "I hope you know what you're doing, Evto Mugen. I don't condone this by any means, but I won't burden you with the loss of a sibling."

  "Thank you, Duvet."

Megami put her hands into her suit's pockets. "Perhaps White Eye isn't a suitable organization for you. You've made that clear."

  "..."

"But don't ever forget who you work for."

  "I won't."

As Megami disappeared from his view, he would look down at Evtoria Mugen. He does not bear any emotions, but in reality, he just does not show them. He was disappointed with his little sister, who was a warmonger, a tyrant, and a cold-blooded murderer.

  "..."

  "..."

"Evto... rgghh... EVTO! HOW DARE YOU LOOK DOWN AT ME! I WILL KILL-"

With just a simple punch, Evto knocked her out cold to stop her from doing anything else. He picked her up and put Evtoria in an emergency shuttle that he could've taken himself. He gently fixed her hair, setting an exact course back to their home world - Jupiter.

.:. I really hope you'll stop this childish act, little sis. .:. He set the ship in autopilot mode and closed the hatch, as it exited the hangar and flew away.

Soon enough, all remaining White Eye soldiers would receive a message to fall back to the outposts, while the higher-ranking warriors were asked to leave the planet. This concerned Evto Mugen and Megami Duvet.

A victory, nonetheless. A clear and good win for White Eye. Perhaps they are allowed to roam in the galaxy for longer.
