Arc 2, Chapter 17 - The Hurt Wars Bring, Part One

3 hours later, the entire White Eye fleet would arrive at Kobaji. The battle had already begun, and it seemed the White Eye members stationed in Kobaji weren't even prepared for this. It was almost a complete and utter wipeout.

Outside the walls of Fortner City was made up of mostly dead land.

However, there are several mining areas and small factories scattered around to serve as the main supplement line to Fortner City, back to White Eye.

Factories were bursting into flames as several Nextellar Star Clan members were destroying any supplies they saw.

On the fortunate behalf of White Eye though, Fortner City remained untouched for the time being.

This meant that they still controlled about 95% of their reserves in Kobaji, while the remaining 5% was currently in the hands of Nextellar Star Clan.

But if they wanted to push N.S.C back, they had to do it fast, as any ground patrol officers and stationed guards were being wiped out, leaving the entire area vulnerable and open to attack.

Fortner City's military defense systems weren't the best either, so if Nextellar Star Clan was going to use their ships to bombard them, then Fortner City was as good as done.

It was clear that the city had no air support at all... until now.

White Eye ships started entering the thick atmosphere of Kobaji. On the front was the ship of Ghost Assassin and Thousand Leaves, and another high ranked ship that was stolen by none other than Ken Magami.

Seriously, the fool he can be sometimes.

[R]: "This is uhh- Captain Magami speaking... uhh... ABANDONING SHIP, OVER!"

He spoke over the comms in his ship before ejecting, free-falling his way down to eliminate a few targets.

Other high-ranked members murmured over who Ken was and what he did. Some didn't recognize him at all, but most didn't care.

"Focus! Red Flock, fly to the left and exterminate any Nextellar on the ground. Use EMP blasts, or even missiles if you must." Megami spoke over the comms and gave any red striped ship the order and gave any blue striped ship to follow her.

The Nextellar on the ground started firing back, as well as any additional Septo and Dark Intrinium soldiers. It wasn't just Nextellar, it was like they've brought the entire army with them.

"Split up and fire your strongest missiles, don't destroy any remaining factories or resources, those are ours. We're gonna need those for this war." Megami Duvet ordered.

  "Roger!"

Nextellar were very quick to dodge the missiles fired at them, but they were slow in getting back up. It was a perfect time for Blue Striped ships to fire their energy beams, taking out the targets.

But before anyone knew it, there were more Nextellar on the ground than expected.

Megami thought about it and realized that Nextellar aren't the ones that are actually attacking them, it was Septo Corp. and Dark Intrinium.

  She gritted her teeth.

"They brought the whole camaraderie with them, huh? I should've expected as much..."

[R]: "My lock on system is detecting someth-" One of the Blue Flock ships were hit by a torpedo and instantly exploded.

  "I-It came out of nowhere!!"

  "Look out!!"

It was too late, another Blue Flock ship was destroyed by another torpedo, and another one.

Megami Duvet was confused, wondering where these torpedoes were coming from. It wasn't the ships that were on her 6. It was something else, but what?

Suddenly, another torpedo flew straight through the sky, destroying another ship.

"Where are they coming from!?" She turned her ship around and faced the sky, but she still couldn't find the source.

"Damnit! I'm picking up a dozen N.S.C ships on my six! I need backup!" She could hear the screams over the comms as other Blue Flock ships were being targeted by a dozen ships that were behind them.

[R]: "I-I'm not sure we can-" Blue Flock 6 and 7 were wiped out.

There were only 2 blue ships remaining, and about 15 red ships fighting the ground.

A transport ship nearby would divert course, firing a few of their self-defense rockets at the N.S.C ships on Megami's tail.

As a result, Megami would divert from her own course, and fly up. When she checked her radar, the ships were destroyed by a transport ship. She was safe, for now.

  "..."

  .:. Should I just... .:. Megami thought.

She has the Soul, she has Soul-Energy and she's certainly not some low-level Soul-Wielder. She can do so much better than dogfight with a bunch of N.S.C ships.

What is she, a non-Soul-Wielding fighter? No. She is a Soul-Wielder, she can do so much more.

While Red Flock were deploying war heads to take out the Septo and Dark Intrinium soldiers on the ground, Megami was having a hard time figuring out how she'll defeat the entire N.S.C fleet.

  "..."

[R]: "Duvet, do whatever you want to push them back. I'm going around." That was the last thing Evto said on the comm before doing what Ken did and ejecting from his ship.

Megami was looking at the N.S.C fleet, trying to figure out what she should do. The N.S.C leader could be in the fleet. Maybe she can take out the leader, and stop this mess?

That would make the entire fleet retreat.

"Tch, fools... They have no idea that I've been toying with them the entire time. I've seen their weakness, they're like ants."

Megami was taking the time to dogfight as a way to properly devise a plan. It was true that Megami was very good at combat, but not in dogfighting. She is more of a master tactician, she's able to read her enemy's moves and think ahead.

Did this mean that it would work with a 100% certainty? Nope.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

  Nothing is certain in war.

But all she needed to do was to think of a way to take down the leader of Nextellar Star Clan. Megami activated autopilot on her ship and opened the hatch of the roof. She was standing on top of her ship, looking at the third biggest fleet the N.S.C has.

  "Soul-Release!"

She yelled, her Soul-Aura manifesting. There were at least 12 N.S.C. ships behind hers, ready to shoot her down. What the hell was she doing? She's vulnerable, extremely vulnerable.

Megami manifested her Signature Weapon - BOA. By breaking her segmented blade up in 9 blades, she would release the energy inside all of them, firing 9 different coloured beams at the ships behind her.

The ships had locked onto her but before they could shoot, the ships exploded. This particular ability of hers is recorded to be one of the strongest beam attacks in the galaxy, with destructive capabilities 20 times of a Tsar Bomba.

This wasn't something you'd want to be on the receiving end of.

But she wasn't just done there. She readied up another beam, but it was now directed at the smaller fleet floating below the main one.

"Composite Destruction!" She yelled as some sort of incantation, condensing 9 different coloured beams into one, giant rainbow beam at the fleet, completely wiping it out.

The sky was lit up with fireworks.

The battlefield had stopped what they were doing, watching what was happening with pure and utter horror.

Megami was considered to have the highest raw power level in White Eye, with Evto Mugen as second. However, Evto's ability works in such a weird way that you couldn't predict him in any way.

But everyone does know that, if you're 1v1 against Evto Mugen...

  You're dead.

Both the people below, and in the sky had witnessed it for their own eyes. But after realizing what happened, everyone was in shock.

Evto looked up at all the commotion taking part over the skies of Kobaji. He was thinking of ways to end this quicker.

.:. The main coordinator wouldn't present themselves within the battlefield, it would be foolish. Even the toughest commanders prefer to stay hidden, watching the fights. In that case, they are somewhere OUTSIDE the field. Perhaps in the city? .:. Evto eyed it.

.:. No... Fortner City wouldn't just let a commander abruptly attack the supply lines... Besides, it is still unharmed. Which means that there's only one place where I can find them. .:. He moved his finger towards the main fleet of N.S.C.

  .:. The head ship. .:.

"There he is! The Ghost Assassin! You're not getting out of this alive!" A whole squad of decently strong Nextellar soldiers immediately surrounded Evto Mugen.

Should these guys risk trying to kill the notorious Ghost Assassin? Or should they save their efforts on those their own size?

Evto Mugen is called the Ghost Assassin for a reason.

But of course, their answer would be:

"Let's get rid of this guy now!"

As soon as the squad raised their blades and put their fingers on the trigger, Evto would take one step and immediately vanished.

He appeared behind one person with an assault rifle and took him out with his whole arm through the chest. The person died instantly without making a single noise. He grabbed the assault rifle and gunned down the remaining armed people.

Those with Weapon-Type Souls would swing their weapons towards Evto.

Evto simply punched the dominant arm of the leftest man swinging his sword down on him and broke it, disarmed him and used his blade to slice his neck clean, taking him out.

The other guy on the right tried crushing him with his Warhammer, only for Evto to catch the sharp end of the Warhammer with his hand, like it was made out of rubber. It didn’t even pierce him.

  "W-WHAT!?"

The last one tried stabbing him with his daggers, however fell to the ground the second he swung. Evto already severed his spine before he knew what was going on.

With the Warhammer still in his hand, he applied the tiniest pressure on it, the Warhammer shattering like glass.

He would then punch the now disarmed soldier on the stomach with full force, propelling him about a full kilometer across the dead ground and towards one of the small factories on the back. The impact created a small crater as his body laid lifeless.

Evto again looked up at the main fleet.

It was no doubt that, the most likely chance of finding the head commander was in there. If it were him, he'd pick the most obvious yet safe hiding place.

Megami landed just behind Evto Mugen, a small crater forming below her feet as her landing crushed a huge portion of ground around her.

"Those fleets just kept shooting at me."

"You should not engage any longer, then." Evto didn't even face Megami to say so. "You don't just face a fleet head-on."

"Yeah, but... It's either the fleet or the ground men, and I rather fight the ones orchestrating the war." Megami frowned, not accepting it.

"...The commander is watching us, Duvet. We have the upper hand, but if they are backed by Septo and Dark Intrinium like the councilmember told us, then this is just the beginning."

  "Your point is?"

"My point is, we board the main fleet, we end it before they can call it a war." Evto turned to Megami, as expressionless as ever. "It's far more efficient than attacking the entire fleet. First though, we must eliminate their footing on the ground." He then points at the battlefield on his side.

"You're telling me you want to eliminate those people? There are like... a thousand of them.”

  "Yes." Evto deadpanned.

Evto Mugen isn't the best one to ask advice on, when there's plenty of casualties involved. He's a direct and unmerciful killing machine, although not the cruellest one in White Eye. He's an assassin, known to hold no emotion.

This makes him all the more scarier. He was certainly someone you truly didn't want to mess with. Even worse, you COULDN'T mess with him, because you would just be dead.

Evto Mugen, known to have assassinated over 10,000 people in his lifetime, and never left a single person alive to spread rumours. For him, every mission is critical. And for him, every person he needs to get rid of, is worthy of being eliminated.

But this doesn't make him a monster, to Megami's perspective. He's simply doing his job. It's normal after having killed so many people, you'd get desensitized.

After all, not everyone can escape their fate.

And so, those 10,000 soldiers were also going to die at the hands of not only the Ghost Assassin, but the Thousand Leaves as well.

"... Oh, I see it now. We kill them, we access the fortress they've built around it, beam ourselves up to the main fleet and kill the commanders... That's, not a bad idea." Megami thought. "Even if we do kill the commanders of Nextellar, we can't know for sure if Septo and Dark Intrinium might back off."

"I can't see any other way around."

Megami let off a deeper sigh, manifesting her Signature Weapon. "... Yeah, okay." She agreed.

In the fiery grounds below, some soldiers that bear no grand title like Megami and Evto are a bit on the struggling side.

Ken Magami, who failed to assassinate Rakoji Kovac, one of the best known mercenaries in the world.

And Mitchel Reeds, known to be the greatest electricity Soul-Wielder, and White Eye's trump card.

Ken is a decent fighter, and his Soul was a Hybrid-Type, meaning he could regenerate himself, create absurd attacks derived from dragon-like abilities, and become a dragon himself. A fiery dragon, like the ground right now.

Mitchel was a bit less experienced in fighting, but he was definitely no pushover. His Soul-Ability is based around controlling and manipulating electricity and energy. He is basically a living Tesla Coil.

Not only that, but he could also even destroy the very concept of electricity, as well as bioelectricity. But okay, why are Ken and Mitchel important now? Well, they're pushing through with absolute power, killing all their enemies.

  "Hya!"

Ken used Dragon Barrage, raining down fire to the N.S.C members that were moving around. Kenny Magami is a force of nature, and so is his Soul. While a Hybrid-Type, Kenny Magami uses a myriad of offensive attacks that makes him seem more like a Power-Type.

But this is because of the type of Soul he harbours. A dragon is generally known to be powerful and destructive, and realistically a dragon would be offensive in nature.

His fires reach an astonishing temperature of 5250 Kelvin, which is almost the same as the surface temperature of the star in the solar system, the Sun.

Mitchel himself would burst out of the factory after the N.S.C in the factory were wiped out. He was a very tall, white male. His Soul-Aura is bright, yellow, and electric.

Some N.S.C soldiers would spot him and shoot on sight, which prompted Mitchel to drop an electric blast that would shock everyone near him. Mitchel wasn't exactly the best fighter, and he's not a genius tactician. He's more of a blunt instrument. But that's not a bad thing, really.

Some moments later, Ken and Mitchel would touch backs and turn around, looking at each other.

"... Hey you... I've seen you before." Ken said to Mitchel.

"Huh- Oh yeah!" Mitchel responded to Ken.

"You are that guy that has those electric attacks, right?" Ken wanted to go straight to the point. It seemed like he had an idea in mind. After seeing Septo and Dark Intrinium ships enter the atmosphere, the battle was taking a darker turn.

White Eye were in grave trouble.

If there was a way, like Evto said, to end the battle before it truly begins, then maybe that could save White Eye, their supply line and their reputation as one of the strongest non-affiliated bodies in the galaxy.

In reality, few forces dared to provoke White Eye in the years, which is why they are still standing.

But they were past their prime ever since the Nextellar Star Clan declared war on White Eye a couple years ago.

They have been in war ever since.

"Yes, what about it?" Mitchel finally asked, blasting N.S.C soldiers away with another electric shock.

"... Well, I just wanted to get to know my peers before our inevitable doom that's to come right above."

  Now that's gotta hurt.
